I have a Emachines M6805. Lately, it has been turning off randomly. I would guess this is a heat issue, since it does it less frequently when I try to keep the bottom ventilated. Using SpeedFan, I've noticed that the temperature varies from ~35 C to ~ 45 C when the fan turns on and off. I want to keep the fan permanently on so it does not overheat. SpeedFan does not detect the fan, so I'm guessing the motherboard does not allow me to adjust / control the fan. I don't know a lot about what controls it, but I think it would be the CPU drivers or windows. If it's windows, I need to know how to change the temperature warning level so that it's set to about 35 degrees or so. Does anyone know how I could do this? Or recommend an alternative that works?
I've talked to the Gateway tech support and they suggested either send it in for "repairs" or buy a cooling pad (which I think I will do anyways).
Note: My notebook is still covered by the warranty so I don't want to go changing anything inside that can't be reversed easily.
Thanks.
