Acer Ferrari 5005 Pics (Review to come soon)

Thread Starter
Just received my Acer Ferrari 5005 from PCSuperStore (AKA Erie Computer) yesterday (10/26). Apparently some ppl out there are surprised that I got the laptop this early. But then again, it was officially announced back in June...I think 4 months is enough for Acer to cook up some sweet laptops for the general public, if they want to continue their market growth in this field.
Anyways, enough blabbering, let's get on with the pictures. Requests for specific shots can also be posted here. I'll be happy to help you guys out.
Let's just say this is one SEXY laptop. My g/f still beats it by a bit, but it was a close race

Oh snap! That's a beautiful baby! I love the keyboard Congrats dude!

Not sure it's a good idea having the serial numbers show in the pictures though man..

omg i totally forgot about th serial! Thx man for pointing that out. I appreciate it. =)

It seems just looks like TM 8200, well a bit preetier...

Yes, that's nice... I like the carbon around the power button area, that is cool. When you get the chance, I would be interested in seeing what it can do with 3DMark03 benches. I won't be splashing out on a new one as I'm sooooo happy with my 4000.

Anyway, welcome to the Ferrari owners club!!!

Hey Morphuis, thx for the welcome =) You're certainly one of the peoplewho got my eyes set on the Ferrari series. Glad to be a proud Ferrari owner, just like you!
3D Mark 03 being downloaded. Will post the score ASAP. Btw, what did the 4004 get on that?
Well, if it's half as good as my one, you are in for one 'hell of a ride!!!' Enjoy every moment...

Edit: The 4005 will bench around the 6000 mark on the 03 scale. Switched to Omegadrivers as soon as I could because the original Acer drivers were flawed... I would expect to have teething troubles with any new machine, but then this is often half the fun of getting it to work awesomely...

would switching over to omega drivers improve the laptop's performance? I did that to my PC but that had an nVidia GPU in it.
Hold everything! Just because I don't have a great deal of faith in those monkeys who program the Acer drivers doesn't mean it won't work fine out of the box. Only try new drivers if you have a problem with the stock ones. The latest Omegadrivers for the X1600 do have problems as I understand it.

Half of the problems with setting up new laptops is knowing when your machine performs at it best, and to stop tweaking it. I got really lucky with the Omegas and still use these drivers today. My machine hasn't crashed in about six months now (no matter what I am doing!!!) and until I find something they cant handle I will keep them. When I realised that my machine wasn't crashing I was smart enough to turn the Windows automatic updates off, mainly because I've known those to screw things up as well. My Laptop motto is, 'if it aint broke, don't fix it'.

And I'll give you one last pointer. I know a lot of people on the forum remove the HD partition. Acer include this for a reason. When I install new software and it screws up, it is often far faster to repair the damage from a ghost image, than go in and try and repair the damage. This is why I am sitting here with a big smile on my face and other people get into trouble. This is best advice I can give you, and you might just thank me for it one day... Make full system backups when you know your system is performing well and after every major software installation that you know works well.

Good luck, enjoy... Morph...

So how does the processor compare with the Core 2 duo?

I didn't delete the partition nor did I reformat the whole HD. I think that's sort of pointless, and yes, the full recovery DVD makes a lot of sense. Thx for the pointers. I'll see how the machine performs and then decide whether or not to look into new drivers. =)

WOWWWWWWWWWWWW, very nice, how much?
looks nice, how did you get it without HD-DVD? I thought that comes on all the 5000's.

I've looked inot the HD-DVD issue. Only the models in Europe (and perhaps Asia) get it. The US models don't have it
post #15 of 34
WOW
That is one Sex-ay lappy.
Thanks for the pics...they look great!!
Could you do a few more benchmarking tests. 3DMark 05/06 and a few gaming tests...while looking out for noise and heat?

I can tell you right off the bat the heat isn't an issue. It seems Acer has fixed the fan problem previously found on the 4000 series. The fan doesn't kick in all that much. Noise wise, it is VERY quiet. You wont be able to hear anything in a lecture hall. As for benchies, I have midterms coming right up (the joy of being a college student...*sigh* ), so I will have to run them later.

Good Choice

Hi mech
Congratulation on your choice .Ferrari is the one I will go for when it is available in Middle East. It is quite a pricy laptop but I think it worth ,specially the 5000 model. I have heard that heat and noise are ok now. Is it true? Would you please submit your review sooner ?!!

Regards,
Touradg

what's the going rate on one of those? I'm kind interested.... but it would really go against all my morals Intel and Nvid pseudo-fan boy. Lol but hey if perofrmance is right i'll switch no probs. so what's the gaming scores for this? and price?

thanks
