wireless card causes freezes

If I'm transferring data at a high speed over wireless, I get intermittent brief freezes. Has anybody experienced something similiar? Would replacing the card with something better help? I don't understand why there's a problem at all. This gigabyte card seems to do a lot in hardware so it shouldn't have this side-effect.

What speed are you using and which wireless unit? IF you are using the "Turbo" mode - you can ALWAYS expect problems because of it's architecture and the likelyhood of interference for "outside" sources on wither of the two channels employed.

I have a gigabyte GN-WIAG card. I'm connected at 54Mbps.
I suspect it may be related to encryption. It might be a problem if it's not being done in hardware. I'll have to see if switching encryption type will help.

My theory proved wrong... it had nothing to do with encryption... what else could it be I wonder...

Could be a Microwave, Airplane Communications, A neighbor's unit, or a variety of other such nonsense. Or, it could be a slight incompatability between the notebooks wireless card and the Router. I only use the wireless (same unit) when I absolutely have to - I wired my house because of the intermittent performance (I want real time steady performance).

In my case, every time someone used a Microwave, the unit underperformed - and that included my one neighbor.

You might try switching to a different channel - I think that Channel 11 was one of the defaults (4 or 5 was the other - not sure). Channel 7 or 8 improved stability a bit.

The problem is not connection stability though, it's computer stability. Dropping connection, etc I would understand but causing the system to freeze is suspicious. I did try switching channels yesterday just in case. I'll try connecting to a friend's router and see if it makes any difference.

"Causing the systemto freeze" - Now that wasn't mention before.

Is the system really "freezing" or is the device and the O/S's support of the device making it look like it's freezing.

With that said, I guess, I have no idea "what's up/or down".
