Help getting storage space

Hi

I've got a question about getting storage space. I currently have 6gb of extra space on my linux partition. I also have a 200gb external HD with 100gb of free space and is partioned as NTFS. I was wondering how I could use 50 gb of that space for storing stuff from linux. When I look at it in with Gparted, it says under parition "/dev/sb1" and a lock picture. It won't let me adjust the size.

Any help would be great
Thanks!

I don't think it's an external drive issue, I think it may be a Gparted (Linux)limitation. Vista's disk manager actually lets you resize NTFS partitions (even on external drives), not sure if the XP disk manager will let you shrink an NTFS partition but you can try it. Otherwise try resizing the NTFS partition using a Windows based disk management tool like Acronis. You might be able to find a trial version or a freeware disk manager online to do this. After you've resized your NTFS partition, see if you can use Gparted to create a new Linux partition.
