I just ordered one for my sister, she didnt wanna pay an extra $170 for a 4 year warranty, so she got:

Core duo 1.73
1 GB DDR2 memory
17" WUXGA
256 MB 7900 GS
80 GB 5400 RPM
53 WHr battery (gonna swap hers for one of my 80)
CDRW/DVD combo drive

not a bad system for $1030 shipped (with tax), $1000 was pretty much her limit and the WUXGA was a must, and she wanted to play games so 7900 gs was also a must since i looked up the X1400 performance and it seems to be under 1000 points in 3dmark 2006 =(

Reguardless I would not purchase a laptop over $1000.00 without the in home warranty as one LCD or a mainboard can set ya back $600.00 the warranty Dell practly gives it to you how can you refuse.

I used this same deal this morning. 30% off + 12% for the EPP + 100MIR. I got this setup. I went in with a budget of 2000, and although I didn't initially need all these top of the line specs, it was so cheap at 30% off then another 12%, it was pretty cost effective to make my upgrades now. For example, I would normally buy my extra RAM upgrade later, but it was like total $175 for the 2GB ram upgrade, and the corsair valueselect is the cheapest 2GB of ram at newegg for $209. ETC. The processor upgrade from 2.0 to 2.13 was only like $100, and the battery, etc... Too affordable to not do it now.

Total will be $1999 once the 100MIR goes through. Can't beat that price for the specs. For those asking about the 30% and the 12% and such. The 30% has two different code numbers, depending if you are EPP or not. If you aren't, it should have a different number. The 12% only applies if you have the EPP code from work or school or whatever.

BigTymer, how do you get the 12% off to work. I configure the same as you did but could only get 8% off. I played around with it & it seems that this EPP warranty % off applies to the amount after the 30% & $50 off total....
