Since I am an Alienware fanatic get the Alienware M5500 though if your looking for portability just get the M1210 or Alienware Sentia I really recommend the m5500 because of how portable it is and how much power is in it, though if you get the M1210 get one with the 7600 GPU the 7400 won't last you 4 years on gaming.

I say Go Alienware or Dell, look around you can get a 1705 for about 1300 with a 7900GS or a m170 with 7800GTX for about 1000.

Alienware if you can spend the extra mula, HP's are great cheap everyday use laptops but not much for gaming.
i say get the m1210. i have heard great things about it and i can tell you from experience that hp uses cheap parts. my ze2000 series is in right now on its 3rd repair in under 2 months STAY AWAY FROM HP!!!!!!!!!! AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!!

I love my sentia m3450. It probably won't play most games, I only play WoW on it.

What do you guys think of Sony?
No on sony, not a gaming lappy.

If you want a cheap everyday lappy, get a NC6000 HP, its what I have, my parents have, both are working wonderfully with 0 issues and are sleek black looking.

Gaming Laptops, are Alienware and Dell. Dell performs better but Alienwares look nicer, its up to you.

Its like this, a Alienware is a Ford GT, and a Dell is a SuperCharged Z06. Sure the corvette is nice looking and faster but the Ford GT is just a dang nice car.

Okay thanks for all your help next question...
Should I go for the better graphics card, 2GB of RAM, or Core 2 Duo T7200+?
Depends on what the graphics card is...

Might help us to know what games you play.

If you are serious about gaming don't get integrated it is going to hold you back.

Core 2's are good but a core duo will suit you fine as you probably won't be maxing out a game at 1920x1200 on the machines you listed

Keep in mind most all computers are designed outside the united states some are built here many are not.

2gig is a luxury option 1gig should be fine even with vista and if you choose to upgrade later that can also be done.
Depends, no matter what vid card you have, if you don't have 2gb of ram you cannot play BF2 on high settings.

7800GTX and higher is the min graphics card i'd get, and 2gb memory. As for processor, thats the least of my concern, a Core Duo is a nice processor.
Yeah it would help us to know what games you want to play and what resolution you want to play them at.

BF2 and BF2124, although I don't even know if gaming is gonna be my first priority on this laptop...
Most engineering colleges require you to get a power laptop good enough to handle their engineering programs
post #15 of 37
If you are doing CAD or open GL programs you might wanna look into a dell outlet precision M90

it will handle games and still push those engineering apps. quite nicely

you might wanna add dell to that and actually youre wrong, they use Infineon ram, which blows the Hynix out of the water (what dell uses) AW > HP > Dell > gateway > emachines soulsaver
post #17 of 37
Soulsaver, if you honestly believe HP is better then dell, then your mis-informed. Dell hands down performs better then AW, the quality is not OUTSTANDING like AW or Voodoo but its decent for the price you pay for it.

i ment build quality, i can press into any dell palm rest and feel the motherboard, i press into an hp, it goes no where thats how youre able to get a nice gaming laptop from dell for a little over 1900 bucks, cause its cheap parts, put into a cheap plastic laptop shell, how do you think dell stays in business? thats like IBM, what are they known for? amazing build quality and no bloatware, its the staple you make for yourself as a company that defines who you are give me an HP/Asus/AW over a dell any day, i dont need ELEVENTYBILLION fps to play, hell i dont even play halo demo on this laptop at full rez cause i play to play, not to see blood EDIT: here we go ill just find a few posts that you decided to be so kind to help me with
