700M video issue

It looks like my wife's 700m may be toast.

When I boot it up, the screen shows in gray with a line down the middle. The left side is light grey and the right side is dark grey with a 1/4 of a darker oval visible on the top right corner.

I originally thought it was the lcd, but I connected a CRT monitor to it and could not get a signal through to it.

I fear the video chip is fried. My support is over so I cant even call Dell to ask about it.

If anyone has seen this before, please let me know.

Thanks.

update the video drivers. and see how that goes.

have you been able to get a signal through external monitor before, or was this the first time you've tried it? If not, do you have the correct connector? Did you enable external monitor?

I can't get any video to show at all, so updating the drivers is unfortunately out. I connected the rga adapter to the back of the laptop and did press the Fn-F8 key several times to toggle it on. The monitor does work and it has been used on the laptop before.

My next step is to take it to work and see how it does on another monitor to make sure it's not the lcd and the monitor. You never know.
