Best components with Core 2 duo extreme

Hey guys, just wondering what the best components to use with the Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme.

I'm looking to build my own Gaming rig (also might have a discount connection for the core 2 duo extreme), and was wondering what

1) Heatsink to use
2) Motherboard, Asus?
3) if I overclock, do I need to water cool it?
4) do most people buy the AMD with a heasink combo package? Or do you buy it separate?

Thanks.

I use the Zalman CNPS 9500 on my Core 2 E6600. Personally, the X6800 is a bit expensive, and the E6700 has a much better performance, price ratio.

No, water cooling not required, core 2s run cold. With my Zalman CPU cooler, and a well built chasis, I idle at 16 C, with my E6600 overclocked to 3.2Ghz (stable). And I average around 23 C on full load (after 30 minutes of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter).

Motherboard, all opinions. I personally use a Gigabyte P965-S3, and it works very nicely. Awesome overclocking controls, etc etc.

AMD heatsinks mite not be compatible with Socket LGA775... So I'd be careful

okay cool, I think I'm getting some good ideas for a master rig. Yah I have ghost recon as well, man plays mega slow on my laptop. Can't wait to play that on a new rig, but may take me a few months to save up enough money.

I dont really understand your #4 question, I would personally go for retail CPU if thats what you mean, another HSF never hurt anyone.

Maybe these will be of help.

1) zalman makes great copper based heatsinks, www.xoxide.com is a good store to buy from, their shipping sucks but its not so bad 2) asus is a great company, id highly recomend them (see link on num3 for everyone is just about using asus boards lol) 3) not really, but its always an option, check out this link to see what results people get with C2D: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1075792 4) OEM vs retail, is eaither OEM is more costly, or way cheaper, doesnt come with a full retail warranty (typicaly for proc's its 1 year or so) no biggie really, id buy an oem if it was cheaper to cut cost a processer CANNOT die due to anything other than obvious things (like running over it with a car) the only thing that can kill a proc with good handleing is eletricity thats all soulsaver

I saw in one of the mags that the AMD cpu came with a heat sink from new egg, so I was wondering if most people buy it that way, or just separate.

Cool. thanks guys this is a good start for me.

Skip the extreme processor. With the e6700 you get pretty much the same preformance for 400 dollars less. Its actually better on some tests.

Yah guys, check out this offer from Intel for the Core 2 Duo extreme:

My friend had told me a while back but I didn't believe him until I saw it. Now I'm gonna follow all of your suggestions for the other components.

save the 400$ and get liquid cooling and clock is at 4.5 or something, make sure u get a new 680I mobo

and If you going to get something "extreme" get a quad core, only like 1300$, 70% better, just giving my opinions here

Aw... sorry I hurt your feelings, but it's clear as day. He's not spamming the link, he's showing other people what is going on.

But hey, if the shoe fits, wear it.

And what of you? Everytime he posts you feel the need to go behind and put up a BAN smiley?

Are you a mod now? Just because you don't think it's legit doesn't mean it isn't, and regardless, his action doesn't warrant a ban.

Soul, I found a good offer for people, and wanted to pass it along to people who helped me out. I've been a member on this forum for 4 years.

You helped me in my initial post in my quest to build a sweet PC rig, so I'm helping you possibly score yourself a Core 2 Duo extreme. I'm on a budget so I'm just tryin' to help out my brothers.

When I was considering buying the Sager 5660, lots of other posters pointed me towards coupons etc. When i recently got my Acer 8204, the entire group helped each other find better deals on fixing the screen etc. So I'm doing my part since I'm in the Desktop frame of mind.

Nuff said.

first off, they arent giving it to any joe smoe who asks for it, second off you need to return the processer once youre done with it uless you write an eval or somthing, also, you spamed it (you had orignal post no reason to go copy pasting it in every thread)

thats just me, and to house, honestly, grow up, all youre doing is trolling me, mind you i dont mind and think its lovely that a man of your stature finds love in my posts, but rly come on
