Hello all - yes an odd title but it kinda says it all. I have an odd query which I am not sure how to put across but here goes....
I am almost there (i.e. dumping XP). Two things were holding me up - WoW and Wireless. The former may be sorted out by the new Beta of CrossOver (well we'll see....). The latter - well....
Initially Kubuntu could see my wireless adapter etc. It could locate my router, saw it and tried to connect - asked for the key etc. and yet it wouldn't connect. Tried all sorts of advice but to no avail. So I went to a lot of trouble getting a conventional wired connection. For some reason I tried it again today and voila - it worked and connected! KNetworkManager had not been upgraded since I last tried it and the only thing that I did was to install the Gnome desktop since then... (hmmmm).
I shut my laptop down for a few hours and restarted and all is still ok.
Is wireless really that fickle under Linux? Can I more or less rely now on a stable connection or should I expect it to 'barf' out again? The reason why I want the functionality is not for home per se but for reliable connections on the move....
I appreciate that this may be a rather dumb question and lacking somewhat in information but in truth I'm not really sure what else to say as the Gnome Desktop was the only upgrade that was made...
Don't get me wrong - I am happy - but somewhat not convinced...
Cheers,
Fuzzmo
PS. The connection is secured via WPA which is what I initially thought was the problem except that it wouldn't even connect via WEP either.....
