Static?
Maybe the room is dry. The ideal humidity level is 50 ~ 80% btw.

I bet you are using a made made carpet like nylon or polyster . This increases static.

I used to have the same problem as I got out of the car until I was advised feet to touch the ground before I touched the metal parts of the car!

Watch out! This is no laughing matter. You didn't describe the strength of the shock, but if its more than normal static (like you experience when switching a light on after rubbing your feet on the carpet), then it could very well be that your laptop is SHORTING.

This is not good and will most likely eventually lead to a failure of some component in the laptop.

First, verify that this is not static, but actually a charge that is being caused by a short. If so, get the laptop checked out well before the end of the warranty period because in my opinion it will undoubtedly cause premature hardware failure. I have experienced this myself.
