7900GS + GTXBios = 7900GSX

The 7900GS flashed with the GTX bios is called a 7900GSX (thanks to Reaver). This thread is for those with a geforce go 7900GS that want to overclock it to its maximum THERE IS NO NEED TO READ THE ENTIRE THREAD< THE MAIN POST INCLUDES ALL NECESARY INFORMATION< BUT PLAESE PARTICIPATE TOO!. I thank Reaver, stormlifter, Krayziepop, pieter and everyone else for their help and posts that have made this Bios mod popular. REP me if you feel like doing so. Now even more than before, becuase i added 141 new roms to the new updated ISO!!!

I have made the following ISO Image that can be burned into any cd or dvd to boot from it. If You use nero uncheck [Finalize CD/DVD] to allow the creation of a "Multisession DISK", so you can add your own rooms later on using NiBiTor to create them and again Nero to ADD/BURN them into the same cd/dvd. This ISO, to overclock your Nvidia geforce Go 7900GS, is a fusion from the popular Jokers GS iso and the GTX Iso, i just added some new rooms and updated nvflash and the other apps. The pourpose of this room is to try different settings from the GTX bios and GS bios without having to burn 2 different ISO's and avoid having to change them during boot. You dont need to register to download the file. It has a size of 35Mb. You can create your own bootdisk by following zvb's directions, found here. There is also a great guide written on how to flash your card by stormlifter, found here. If you want to create your own rooms and dont know how, use this guide, but be sure that every room has a size of 62.5k - 64k to avoid flashing a corrupt BIOS.
If you damage your card you can sue me.... nah just kidding, if you damage it you are on your own . But that is rare. Nad eve so we might help you solve your problems.

FUll NOOB GSX FLASH GUIDE

This ISO includes GS bioses labeled XXXYYYY.rom (example 6001200.rom) and GTX bios rooms labeled 000c000.rom (example 600c800.rom) This is just a namming differnece so people know what BIOS is being flashed, GTX bios or a GS bios; For the GS BIOS 600/1200 means the same as 600/600, and for the GTX bios 600/800 means 600/1600. Voltemoded Bioses have a prefix "v" vXXXYYYY.rom or v000c000.rom.

Now you may ask yourself where to start, what roms to flash first? Well the updated ISO includes new roms to raise either the GPU clock or the Memory clock leaving the other unchanged. v000c000.rom
These roms start at v500c600 and go up to the highest reported speeds so far v675c875.rom. First i recoomed to determinate the maximum GPU clock posible for your card, becuase if you go too high, windows will freeze. Start flashing in increments of 25mhz to see how it goes. Then do the same with the mamory, leaving the GPU clock at 500mhz, this way if you go too high you will notice artifacts. When you determinate both maximum clocks combine both maximum settings. This cahrt shows The default clocks, the safe clocks the sweetspot clocks and the probably dangerous clocks so you get a better visual.

You may download the lates drivers from dell/support or even try the moddified ones from laptopvideo2go. The unofficial ones dont support some features from your laptop, like shutting down the screen when closing the lid cover, or downclocking your video card from your 3D settings to your 2D settings while in normal desktop use. Maybe in some time that will be fixed.

On the NVIDIA control panel; if IMAGE SETTINGS option is turned on HIGH PERFORMANCE rather than HIGH QUALITY, your performance will improve, but this work just like a driver tweak, so its not being taken into account here for score posting, different drivers have different perfomance settings for those standard settings. With dell drivers selecting "high performace" could perform just like selecting "high quality" with the XGM drivers. In the end Those drivers only tweak the software so is better to try rivatuner and tweak your OpenGL or Direct3D settings at your own taste, so you can enjoy the features of dell default drivers.

So far only the 7900GTX bios is supported by the GS card, so dont ask about the 7950GTX bios, because it will not be compatible. I hope people post thier scores and other usefull information. The GTX bios seems to be more stable than the GS giving room for Memory clocks over 600 (1200), reaching allmost 900 (1800). So far no luck unlocking the extra vertex shader or 4 pipelines, but me and some other people(i Hope) are working on it. I also included the latest version from NiBiTor.v3.0a to create your own rooms, and the latest versions from ATITool_0.25_b16 for artifact testing (remeber to use old testing method under artifact testing settings to get a more stable testing that is more comparable to real gamming ) and RivaTuner20RC158. Also so far every room runs at a default voltage of 1.24V for 2D and 3D aplications, when it should normaly lower the voltage to 1V to save battery and power during normal desktop use, until i updtae every single rom, people must create their own to fix this, and here is how. Have fun. Try leaving a safety margin; that means going about 5-25mhz back to ensure stability on extreme conditions. That will reduce you about 1FPS but is worth it.

Hmm...no wonder flashing an undervolted 3d voltage (same 2d voltage but 3d voltage very low) caused windows not to boot...I was just expecting a BSOD in a 3d application...Bios and everything was fine...the login screen is where it locked up...Sry for the offtopic post, nice thread though

Holy shit ... this scores with a 7900 GS ... respect, I feel screwed with my 7900 GTX cause it was more expensive and now the GS is almost on par...

Question with the stock 7900gs there are 20 pipes now with the 7900gs forced flashed to the 7900gtx bios does it unlock the 4 extra for pipes that a stock 7900gtx has?

Well the trick behind all this is that the GTX bios does something funny to the GS card, so its more than clocks and voltage. That is what we are trying to find out here.

Yea they are laser locked and are not hardware masked by the bios.

In theory this is the only way to enable them, but we would need the help of someone that has both cards and its willing to give us a complete review of the fisical differences between them to figure out where to do the trick.

Try your default overclocked GPU clock that you used in the GS bios and start raising your memory clock by 25mhz at a time. or maybe 5 to be safer.

I have found out that Black And White gives me the highest temps, and are the same that atitool generate, about 84c max. Not even oblivion stress my card like that.
