7900GS + GTXBios = 7900GSX - Page 25

Your temps are normal. Propping the back of the notebook up a bit will help also.

Silver compound did nothing for me as well.

Dr. Doom, the dual pipe heat sync is about a 10 degree difference for me, however i went from single pipe GS at 1.24v to dual pipe GTX at 1.24v.

let a space between the desktop and the laptop, abbbout 1cm using bottle caps

Man ya'll are some ballsy guys. I hate to see my card go above 80C. but then again thats just me. lol

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I appreciate it. Keep up the good work Yolda. On another note Yolda, are you updating the .rom files on the first page with some of the newer voltage settings?
Man everybody's having such good temps even with overclocked 7900GS' cards, and I've got temps up in 96 degrees while playing games like oblivion. My card is clocked at 500/575 mhz...

Clean out your condensor grills.
nah i figured the problem, this laptop came with an integrated graphics card base, which has no vents on the side of the card, guess ill have to get dell to replace it...

he has anyone undervolted the 2D voltages to increase battery life and reduce heat during normal load?
The throttle voltages are what will increase battery life...But I'm still messing around with the settings...Its questionable as to how our voltage changes are being applied in actuality...
One thing that is preventing me from pushing this further is the fact that I cant even use my 2d clocks (so probly not voltage either) on my desktop...could this be my drivers (lv2g-84.21) or another issue?

i have been working on pieters suggestions but i need to do the testing still, as soon as i get them, probably around tuesday next week i will have a new ISO featuring a Bios that displays GSX instead of GTX for all those fans outthere, including the new voltage/vid settings, and a complete guide, i was thinking on including my drivers too since i change them i get no more bsods and before i got the memory parity error, and that is truthly anoying, so if someone gets that bsod try using the 84.63 nvdidia oficial drivers.

people should read the main post more carefully and not jsut read until the word Download ISo appears lol.... yes your drivers are the problem use nvidia default drivers and rivatuner to tweak them its easy and fast, and you will geta stable machine, or you could even use dell drivers, but i only recomend the 84.63

I was the first to respond the whole first post and I don't even have a 7900gs... I noted the issue earlier, I was just trying to confirm...thx

That would be nice. Thanks.

Ok.. so my E1705 should be here in the next couple of days, and I got the boot disk burned and ready to install, and im planning on going with the 600c800 rom and putting that bios in, and the uninstalling my current drivers and putting on the XGM 92.91 Drivers ( maybe someone can recommend a good set of stable drivers with this rom ? ) and then checking for artifacts with ATITools, and if that goes well running a 3dMark 05/06 and checking my score.

Does all of this sound about right, ive been reading and over the last few days I have read all 33 pages to this and read a bout changing Vid settings and things like that, but im not planning on doing anything like that, just what I mentioned and following directions on the first page, Does my plan sound alright or can someone shed some light on maybe something I have planned wrong ? Thanks a lot and hopefully ill have some good results to post here in the next few days.

Thanks for the help guys this is a wonderful thread, im not so upset about the lack of 9750 oln the 1705 now

Ok..done some testing.
Driver 84.63

I'ts the powermizer funktion that determins the clockrate. If u disable it clockrates will go to 3D performance mode. Setting in Nvidias classic controlpanel doesn't work. At least not for me.
Another wierd thing is that when the laptop returns from Hibernating it refuses to go from 2D clockrates to 3D no matter what. Playing Oblivion at 100/100 is a bit slow =)
Only way to get to 3D is to turn off Powermizer.

Have anyone else noticed this?

I've been doing some testing and while my GPU temp always seems reasonable (never above 70 something), I do get screen flickering at times when just doing 2d desktop work.

Driver 84.63:

6400 3dMark05 score @ stock

7605 3dMark05 score @ 450/1200 Parity error after a while

7565 3dMark05 score @ 450/1150 flickers. No 3d artifacts after 20 mins of ATITool.

7317 3dMark05 score @ 440/1100 flickers No 3d artifacts after 20 mins of ATITool.

Guess I'll have to keep going down and see what happens. Maybe the laptopvideo2go drivers will help? I await for the fixed roms that don't use such high voltage on 2d apps.

EDIT: After spending more time on this I think that this screen flickering happens when running the application GameTap in a window. Has anyone tried this application on the 7900 GS?

Has anyone got rid of the problem with the GSX bios making gameplay less smooth? I have had this problem since the GSX bios install and I am back at the GS bios because of it. It gets annoying playing 2142 and lining up for the shot and when you turn it is not fluid like the GS bios gets me.

my 3d is 600/800

im gonna make my 2D 100/100 to reduce heat when doing documenting etc , any objections?
running less than 190 mem on my 6800u results in errors...but I guess theres no harm in trying it out

Im also running 100/100 in 2D, it runs fine. Even when watching movies full screen there's no problem.
yeah im on it now too, when i say 100/100 it means 100/200 (ddr2)

is that what u mean too?
