stay runned the iso is ready featuing 147 new roms and file updates, including a way to make windows believe that your card is a GSX :P
post #522 of 1054
Ha ha ha... I like that.. Will be great to see it actually say GSX when ever a dell rep comes out and freaks cause he doesn't know what it is...
Probably a really dumb question considering I have read this thread from start to finish about 3 times, but please bear with me on this.

Dell are replacing my burnt out 9100 with a 9400 with the core 2 duo and the 7900gs.
Now, I'm aware Dell have a tendency to underclock their cards and when I came across this I thought it would be the best solution to get the most from the system they're sending me.

BUT, what I can't seem to get into my thick skull, is whether or not I still have to change voltages on the rom to 1v for 2d 1.24v for 3d. I'd planned on using the 600c800, and I notice in NiBiTor that the settings are already 1v, 1v, and 1.24v. So i'm assuming I could get away with just flashing the bios and not worrying about it, is that correct?

I realise that my battery life will be shorter, and the card will probably run a little hotter, but is it really going to run a lot hotter for me to need l8kfanui, or could I get away without using it, without killing my card?

Please help, I'm tearing my hair out with this, and I don't have much of that to start with.

Hey Vags, I believe the new ISO that is coming, thanks to all of the hard work from yolda, will have all of the proper settings included. I think there was a VID bit that needed to be changed, from 3 to 6? My temps didn't increase much at all with 550/700 but I set up the fangui anyway just to be safe.

yolda, i can host hit.. add me to msn: leholtet@online.no
post #526 of 1054
Your battery life wont be hit if youre using drivers that allow 2d clocks...you can setup 2d clocks and voltage on your desktop and 3d clocks and voltage in 3d and have your throttle in between the 2...if you are using drivers that do not allow 2d then you can still set your throttle to be low but the throttle will only be used on battery...

OK i forgot that, to make WINDOWS believe you own a GSX card, you need to mod the drivers you use, first of all:
1.Download either nvidia defalut 84.63 drivers or dell drivers.
2.Extract them to any directory
3.Search for a file named NVDM fro dell driver or nvmw on nvidia drivers.
4.Replace with custom file found in the ISO D:gsx inf/{dirver name}

or for other drivers do this:

4.Right click to Edit them using notepad.
5.Search on the bottom for "NVIDIA_G71.DEV_0299.2"
6.Change NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GTX to NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GSX
post #533 of 1054
Basically, its just changing the description of the driver to show as GSX instead of GTX. This will not impact anything performancewise nor will it have any negative effect for future updates. The BIOS still sees it as a GTX and will perform the same.

Here is the download link for those of you not wanting to surf to the first page

Yeah! Is the voltage problems fixed on all the roms? like v600c800?
One cool addition that made my roms was to put 2D voltage to the minimum 0.8v. I got 3-4c less that way. It's easily configurable if you know how to use NiBiToR, but would be a nice update to the next release yolda (if there's one).

I just flashed to the newer rom (v600C800 - thanks Yolda!!) and ATI tool is not scanning; I put it on the option to use the older method of scanning, but nothing happens. Any idea whats happening?

Ok, i get -10 in fps in games with the v600c800.rom, wich makes it "lagg".. its prolly the GTX bios generally, anybody else having this problem?

Again the bios is not the problem, is the driver, is not posible that more speed causes shutter, and try usint vsync too.
