7900GS + GTXBios = 7900GSX - Page 30

Yeah if you check the normal overclocking post, it was Reaver who got the highest 3dmark05 score with the GTX BIOS

10,004 3DMark05

So its surely possible. He also has the T7400 which not everybody has, and had his GSX up to 675/1650... so keep trying guys! I know I won't make it up anywhere near those scores until I get my T7200 and an extra gig of RAM, lol...
hell, doesnt matter what rom i use, My memory will not go above 550 (1100) without throwing all kinds of artifacts.

ticks me off. I am maxed at 1100... pathetic!

I created a new GSX rom for the 1100 mem settings... I hated to do it, but I had to check it.
Artifacts in games, or just in ATITool? If its just ATITool, make sure you have the checkbox for "Use Old (More Compatible?) Scanning Method" enabled.
yeah i have the "Old Scanning Method checked...

I have lowered my CORE down to 580 and the memory starts to be ok at 650... testing 700 right now...

what sensitivity is everyone using for the artifact scanning of ATITOOL..I am using the default.

I know we get more power from the core increase than the memory, but it seems my memory is quite finicky at the moment. still testing all the threshholds and shtuff.

I ahve not been able to best my GS bios v6001100 score in 3dMark06 as of yet with the GSX bios...

more testing is ahead of me...

I can't flash my 7900 GS :s

When I'm in the bios and I give the following command:

nvflash V600c800.rom, nvflash V500c600.rom it refuses...

It gives an error that is doesn't math my GPU??

what should I do?

You need to use the command:

nvflash -4-5-6 vxxxcyyy.rom to get the GS to load the GTX BIOS.

ppfff

I't doens't work :s

GPU doesnt match

If I don't use a space between the 6 and V it does something but when I check the bios in windows it's the same...
I've used the force flash to flash many different card bios to mine...just try this command, its the same except it does all the work for you...
nvflash -4 -5 -6 --auto -y [romname].rom

Also, I'm a little skeptical about this inf mod...if 'EnablePowermizer' really does enable auto throttling why isnt it in any of the other inf's I've seen that use auto throttling?...I know for sure it doesnt work for me but eh, maybe it holds significance to 7900 series...
Originally I thought it was pretty straightfoward but I just dont know now...
It worked

But now which are the best drivers for this card!

I used the v575c775.rom first
I have succeeded in running stable with the v580c800.rom.. WOOHOO.

I achieved a 4978 at one point, but I am unable to replicate it so I am going with the 4945 3DMark06 that I am consistant with.

load temp is 81 deg.

I am using the XGM 91.47's and I have not modded the INF to state GSX either.

Thanks all...

still trying for the magic 5000... but I doubt I will hit it without going into UNSTABLE range.

What is everyone's facination with 3DMark05? What tests are done differently here or is it just a higher number game?

thx

its kind of like the old "mine is bigger than yours" thing. the higher the number, the better. as for me, I've been able to hit 4975 in '06 with the v600-800 rom. I'm too chicken to try anything higher because I dont feel like have an unstable system. *edit* I just flashed mine again. this time I went to 600/800 and I went to 5147 on 3DMark '06. I also went a couple of rounds on HL2 and I didnt notice any difference between 600/600 and 600/800 so I decided to flash it back to 600/600. no sense in stressing the card out if there's no noticeable difference.

Is it possible that I can't installe other drivers :s:s:s

I use the v500c600.rom...
Idle temp is 69/70 degrees :s
Is the original GS bios also in the ISO file?

Also ATItool doesnt want to scan and 3dmark refuses to work

EDIT: I use the v575c775 rom now...

But which rom stays the coolest? and gives also good preformance?

Now I'm using tge v500c600 rom.

I just want to have a cool system and increase battery life I'm not really a gamer

Is an idle temp from 60°C normal with dell fan control 3???

UPDATE: Idle it goes to 63°c than the fans kick in and bring the temp back to 52°c ...

Is this normal?

LatitudeD820:
Try re-installing your drivers by going into safe-mode and wiping your computer of anything Nvidia Driver related. Then try installing the 84.63 driver set from Nvidia. I currently use that driver and my 7900 GS dropped a few degrees in temperature. Gaming is also stable on that driver (I'm running 600/800 clock).
As for your temperatures, that is what happens /w the Dell bios. It only turns the fans on the system on past 60 degrees. I recommend installing i8kfangui and setting the gpu fan to always running on slow speed.
I use the system a lot on my lap.

Isn't it better to stay with the 500/600?
Or isn't the 600/800 hotter?
If you're concerned with the heat altogether, do not overvolt or use the GTX bios, stick with the 7900 gs bios. You mentioned that you don't game much either, so it would be pointless to overvolt. I would imagine that the 500/600 clock speeds run cooler, but the biggest temperature increase is the overvolt. If you're concerned about heat in any way, or if you use the laptop often on non-flat surfaces, switch back to the stock GS bios. Try flashing back to 500/600 and testing your temps there. If it runs cooler, by all means use 500/600.
I would have to say anyone that is having issues with heat needs to work a little harder on their temps. Here is what my system runs at while idling with the fans on high...

This is running a modded GTX/GSX BIOS @ 600/800 clocks. Voltages are set to .9/1.0/1.05 and everything is rock solid. Highest I have seen the temps peak at was 80C since I modded the 3D voltage down to 1.05V. CPU and GPU both have AS5 on them, and the system is sitting flat on my bed in the back of the big truck right now. Ambient temps are right at 70F.

For me the standard GTX speed prefors enough. The only game I play in NFS carbon IF i have some spare time.

Which bios would offer me the longest battery life? The original GS bios or the V500c600 bios?

thx!
If you mod your 2D and throttle voltages down a bit, you can score better battery life with any clockspeed. As long as you are on battery your card will never clock to the normal 3D voltage and speeds. So battery life is a moot point if you keep the stock voltages...

19C idle CPU Temp!! Are you serious!! I never manage less than 40C idle
