7900GS + GTXBios = 7900GSX - Page 32

I am running the NVidia 84.63 stock driver. I am going to reinstall, as suggested, and report back. Are the NVidia drivers known to conflict with ATI Tool?
KManZ: No, they shouldn't.
Has anyone else here tried lowering their voltages on their GSX? Krayziepop lowered his voltages down to 1.05v, so I did the same, and the card is running a lot cooler now, with no signs of instability. I think everyone here should try to lower their voltages down from 1.24v, as it looks like that level of voltage increase is sheer overkill for the GTX modded 7900 GS. With the voltage down to 1.05v, I hit around 78-80 degrees during gaming, as opposed to the 90-91 I was hitting before with the 1.24v...

just tried the updated bios, before with the original gtx bios, i could run 615/850 without artifacting, but with the updated roms i cant get over 600/800 without artifacts in atitool. I'll spend some time trying to get the voltage down to 1.05, cause i've hit 93c in carbon almost on a daily basis, and that worries me. i'll report back

I need some help. I flashed my card this way:

nvflash -4 -5 -6 v550c750.rom

And now I have less performance. Any Idea? I'm using MobileForce G3 drivers
post #625 of 1054
That seems right...
Maybe you need to reinstall drivers, because the GTX bios gives more stablity and performance over the GS bios...
If you're switching from 440/1100 GS clocks to 550/1500 GTX then there should be no reason why your card would run slower.
I flashed again to 550/1400, is it ok or should I try to overclock a bit more? I'm getting almost 8000 marks in 3DMark 2k5 with the system on my signature
post #627 of 1054
Thats a good score. Most 7900 GS can handle 600/800 clocks with no problems on the GTX bios.
dont use the Mobileforce G3 drivers, they make lagg! use the original from dell! or laptopvid2go

Hmm, I have a question regarding RivaTuner and ATI-Tool.
In RivaTuner, when I'm in just windows browsing, it reads my current VID @ 7.0 (which would be 1.0v)
I check ATI-Tool and it reports my current clocks as 100/100, which would be 2d mode (0.9v). So is the graphics card actually switching to 0.9V during regular windows use?

How to lower them down.Thank you!

Because of the temps and some artfacting in games, I have moved back to the 600/1200 GS clocks. For me, the GTX clocks at 600/1600 only gave me minimal gains in 3dMark06 score. So I thought for now I will go back to the GS bios to keep the temps down -- I was getting them at 90-91C playing BF2142. --But I may try scaling down to 1.05v when I get more CD-Rs (I am out can you believe it???) and see how the temps act. Have fun oc'ing!

I noticed the same thing and opened up my bios to see what the V's were set to. V7 in my BIOS is for the Throttle mode, which is set to 0.85v. My clocks are set to 100/100 (according to RivaTuner) which indicates 2D mode, but with Throttle voltage. The card still slowly climbs up to 70C with these settings...

In my BIOS V4 is for 3D (0.95v), V7 is for Throttle (0.85v) and V3 is for 2D (0.81v). But the driver seems to mix these settings together to its own taste...

As is mentioned earlier in this thread apparently the true meaning of the Vs is not yet fully clear...

this is for everyone, if you aint seeing performance gain, its becuase you dont know how to do it, as simple as that.
i've loaded kraziepop's bios onto my i9400 and am idling in the mid 50's, have not done any extended gaming as of yet.

3dmark06 score is 5225 almost 1000 points better than when i was at 450/1000 (gs bios/clocks). t7400 2G of RAM.

thanks for your work!!!!

So then what am I doings so wrong??? It seems everyone with an Intel Core Duo -- not the Intel Core Duo 2 7000 series -- is not reaching a larger gain with the GTX bios (maybe bottlenecking somewhere). I only gained 200 pts. which was not a huge gain like you all with the Core Duo 2. Anyway, would love for you to show me as well as everyone here how to get the most, but maybe I am too stupid for you to show me .

Mitchell2.24v: 0.95v at max clock? How's your stability on that voltage and your temps during gaming? I'm also interested in lowing my 2d voltage further to around 0.8v...would it be safe to do so?

Not sure what your doing wrong, but there is definately a performance gain with the core duo. After flashing with the 600/800 gtx bios I scored 5185 in 3dmark06 which is probably more than a 1000 better than with the GS bios I was using. However I did end up flashing back because games seemed to lose their "smoothness" when I was using the gtx bios. However I suspect this was due to the temps getting too high with the original gtx bios i was using, because it seemed to happen after about 10 mins of gaming. I will try the new bios that was posted with the lower voltage and post my results when I do.

btw... here is my 3dmark06 resuls if you would like proof http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=619175

With the GS bios at 600/1200 at 1.24v I gained a score of 4841. After flashing to the GTX at 600/1600, I only gained a 100 point boost. What made me switch back was the temps getting all the way up to 90-91C -- plus some artifacting. I definitely want to stay under 90 that's for sure and have no artifacts. I guess it is bottlenecking somewhere.

Well I will definitely keep on reading. Maybe someone will have the same problem and provide a fix. Anyway, good luck all.

Stability is good. I can play NFS Carbon hours straight without a single problem.

I am wondering if there is an actual change in voltage though as temps (both idle and in game) are not that much lower. Only a few degrees C.

I do notice weird behaviour in RivaTuner though, but that could be driver related. During regular 2D work (Office, Visual Studio, SQL Server) the clocks jump up and down from 100/100 to the full 575/650. The V selection also changes. Somehow the GPU is switching to 3D mode and back.

Will post a screenshot of this behaviour later on.

I have made some drivers that after my opinion is the best for this card. Somewhere i can upload them?
