7900GS + GTXBios = 7900GSX - Page 34

I have an XPS M1710 with a 7900GS, and I would like to be able to get a higher OC with my card. I saw the new BIOS at the top of the forum, as well as this. Is it possible to use these .roms with the BIOS that was stickied at the top of the forum so we can set the overclocks to these "GSX" clocks through a program such as rivatuner, or is that not possible?

yes you can
I got an inspiron 9400 with 7900gs. I use the gsx mod @600/800.
But in 2d Mode my GPU temperature is at 73C!!!
Now the fan starts pretty late (about 75 C) But Idont know why

I also have a voltmod-flash 0,9 V in 2D.

Does somebody have a solution???

Are you using i8kfangui to control the fans?
No. I have just deinstalled it. i8kfangui did not work.
which version should i use?
Be a little more descriptive about 'what did not work'. I8KFanGUI has worked since I have received my E1705, so it should work for you too. I would assume you probably just didn't turn on all of the sensors before you started. In the options panel you have to check all of the boxes under the 'status reading' tab to get all of the readouts to work. Then to get the fans to come on and shut off at different temps you need to adjust the CPU and GPU temperature control setting under the 'temperature control' tab. While in the temp control tab, make sure you check the sub-tab that says GPU and check the radio box that says "Enable GPU temperature control"

As far as what version I am using, I run version 3.0 which is the newest release, and it works well under XP and Vista Ultimate.

fancontrol now works. you were right i forgot about one tab.

every time i try to flash it i get an error . it checks for matches between display adapters nnd images and it finds no matches i use the flags -4 -5 -6

i have 2 7900GS 256mb
The exact command you would need is nvflash -4 -5 -6 romname.rom

If you don't type it exactly like that, with the spaces, it won't work at all.

Krayzie,

FYI, I had to switch back to the non-volt modded 600c800 image (from Yolda's updated CD) after noticing significant artifacts in *2D* operation under Vista. Not sure if it's Vista-specific or just flakiness with my GS, but it appears that not everyone can undervolt, even in a non-gaming context.

Note: This should also help to prove-out your belief that the voltages are indeed changing - at 0.9v I get artifacts while at 1v I do not, so...

Also curious as to your overall experiences with Vista. None of the usual tuning/config tools seem to work (one of the reasons why I'm still using the GSX BIOS vs. the new "unlocked" image from Juan). Any success in working around this issue? I'd much rather "soft-mod" my clocks - safer (no chance of a bad flash) and less stressfull for people like us who also use their systems as primary work PCs. :-)

Download NTune from the Nvidia website. Its a program designed for their NForce series motherboards, but it works fine in Vista. However, ONLY use the GPU CLOCKSPEED ADJUSTER! The rest of the tools will hard lock your system and beg for a hard reset... not cool if you are working on things lol. To get the new control panel features to work, you have to install NTune 'AS ADMINISTRATOR' and also to run the extra features you need to do the same. Otherwise the program won't be given admin access to the low level driver settings (which is exactly why Vista is good in many ways!)

Give it a try and see how it works. BTW, I had the same kind of issues as you with the throttle clocks being set too low. If I try to throttle at .9 Volts, it locks up hardcore on me... Oh well, these are just my observations. People that argue the point can do so till they are blue in the face... I have experimented a bit and found something that worked well for me.

Krayzie,

I have ntune installed, however, most of the GPU functions cause the lockup you described, including the Find Optimal button. Are you saying that nothing but the frequency sliders work? If so, don't I need to click the Test button after setting them in order to keep them? In my experience, clicking Test also causes a crash, so...

Also, FYI, I'm running the 97.52 drivers from LV2GO.

I am currently running the 97.46 Mobileforce drivers and they seem to work pretty well... yes only the frequency sliders should work. With my drivers, the Test Settings button works though. I usually just set a clock and hit apply, because it autotests the settings for you. Could be the drivers you are using I suppose..

Krayzie,

OK, based on your feedback I'll give it another try. I just assumed with all of the crashing - and without a reliable source to confirm it works (eventually) - that it wasn't worth the effort.

Thanks!

What driver do you use?

Check with atitool if your clock speeds changes as they should or if it's stuck at 3D clocks all the time.

If it's stuck then it's a powermizer problem and can be fixed with a driver change.

7900 gs bios ram optimize and personalize xp whit nlite..iso= 135 mb whit critical update
post #679 of 1054
Wow, so you're getting that score with the 7900GS BIOS? That's incredible, with my 7900GS using the 7900GS BIOS I couldn't get my memory near that.

Also, does the nLite XP install make a huge difference? If so, how so? I have my processes all scaled down to where when I run 3dmark I have onle 11 or 12 processes running, and my HD freshly defragged, but I can't get near that score. Even with mine overclocked to 645/845 I can't get over 9380. What's even more impressive is that you're doing it with a Core Duo, while most getting near 10k have a Core 2 Duo.

Also, what drivers are you using? I have Dell's "Performance" 84.63 drivers installed.
