7900GS + GTXBios = 7900GSX - Page 41

no, i tried to type " r:\> nvflash -4 -5 -6 {romnames}.rom" or no brackets but the error occured
post #802 of 1054
urrr...I'm confused...I figured you used the .rom extension but I told you not to use the brackets. If you arent using the brackets then you need to tell me that and I'll find out what your problem is
post #803 of 1054
sorry zzpulp, shame on me . i did without bracket and succeeded.
finally window restart. the screen resoltion changed to 800x600 but i change to original 1400x900. the display properties show 7900gtx
what should i do next ?should i install new 7900gtx drivers ?
Alot of people recommend reinstalling drivers after flashing but personally I've flashed so much I never have the time to do that...also, there's really no such thing as 7900gtx drivers although there are drivers geared towards mobile 79xx series...If I were you, I'd stick with the 9x.xx series drivers if you use xp
post #805 of 1054
thank you zzpulp
before flashing my 3dmark06 : 3731 ( default setting : no AA, resolution 1200x800, optimal)
after flashing : 3dmark06: 4991 (default setting) (v550c750). Because i want it in safe range setting from v500c600 to v575c775 like yolda said. if i set too high , i think there's a risk of video card malfunction, right?
specs: 1.66 core duo, 1gb (553mhz) ram, 7900gsx
post #806 of 1054
ouch that processor is gonna limit you (ram too)...anyway, yeah, you can damage the card from OC'ing it but short-term damage is a result of heat and hence your card is unique (due to your ambient temperature as well as your particular core)...many people around here use 600/800 just fine and as long as my temperatures were low enough (less than 85 C for the gpu), I'd try to eek whatever left out of it I could...
Well it looks like i f'd this one up all i get is a black screen after 5001000.rom

I have a Rev 01 7900GS card, can I flash it into a GSX?
You cannot flash the gtx bios to it but there are some other mods you can try I suppose
post #810 of 1054
I tried flashing the bios with v600c800 and was working brilliantly ingame but then i tried 3dmark and after the openign scene in the ship the fps drops from 33 to 0 there after. I checked the temps and they were near 83c so i decided to drop the core/mem but even at 575/800 the same thing happens and the temp is topping out at 80c
I guess this must but due to throttling butsurely 575/800 is manageable?

I have reading these fourms for the last month trying to find how to make my go7900gs card faster. I just registered today because i need help with the flashign part. when i get to the R:\ command i type in nvflash 5001200.rom and it tells me that my pci id doesn't match is there something i am doing wrong?
Thanks
First, make sure you have a rev0 card...only then should you use the following command:
nvflash -4 -5 -6 [biosname].rom
how do i know if i have a rev0 card. seond i followed the -4 -5 -6 command and it tells me that there is a epprom error. any ideas
thanks

When you turn on your computer hit F2 to get into your BIOS for the Video card it lists the BIOS revision 05.71.22.xx.xx Where xx.xx is where you can tell what version of the video bios you have. If the last 4 numbers are 16.13 then you have a rev0 card which is the best kind of card. If you see 28.01 then thats a rev1 which has serious limitations. If you have a rev0 car dyou can use the regular method of flashing however if you have the rev1 card then you need to follow this link

http://home.tele2.es/jlgm/peng.html

and flash with only 2 BIOS which is either the 791GSUNN.ROM or 791GSUNV.ROM
post #815 of 1054
hey dell-machina,

how much performance difference does it make if we use the method you say for the rev1 card? so you cant use this 7900gsx method with rev1 card?
You cannot use the GSX method on a rev1 card at all. The GTX never got a revised BIOS to bring it up to Rev1. So Dell did some bit modding and made the two bios'es incompatible with each other. A rev0 GS card has the same footprint as the GTX BIOS thats available, whereas the rev1 BIOS is 1.5Kb smaller in size.. Now its just my guess that one could compare the BIOS's and use zero padding to make the 2 the same again - but thats just speculation on my behalf (and something you would need a bit of background in hex editing to understand what I mean...)

Though you can't just flash a rev1 card with a GTX BIOS, you can manually edit the ROM file to have the same increased memory timings and should be able to unlock it the same way also...
Yeah I'm betting the mod will be done by using certain parts of the gtx bios within the rev1 bios such as memory timings but I dont have a card to test it out. Anyway, Krayzie, it wont be as simple as zero padding as you likely cant flash anything over 61 kb to the rev1. Also, I have compared the two bios files with my hex editor and they are VERY different. I can post an output of dissimilarities at each offset if needed.
Just tell me how many bits of similarity you'd consider equality and how far ahead to search in one file for a "nibble" in the other.
