7900GS + GTXBios = 7900GSX - Page 45

Its been praised that the rev0 can use the GTX bios. I dont have the card so I'm not sure of the advantage of the gtx bios. I think it only allows the memory clocks to be set to higher frequencies due to relaxed timings. You could import these timings into the rev1 but it may be that the rev0 and 7900gtx memory are the same, hence the increase. The rev1 memory is different plus its of lower quality in terms of frequency output.

mmm, I thought the exactly same thing, but in NiBiTor the timings of the GS rev0 and GTX are EXACTLY the same , so the possibility is that Nibitor is wrong and the timings aren't set in the bios where it thinks or the trick resides somewhere else. The timings for rev1 instead are all different from those two. The strange thing is that also the modded Bioses with optimized timings also have the same timings ....

Yes, the guy that hosts the file is no genius. Personally, I don't have any bad blood with him but I just think people think a bit highly of him calling the bios "JuanLu bios" and praising these "optimized" timings.

Anyway, I have not compared the gs and gtx bios so I dont really know about the key differences. There are still many bytes in the bios that we are unsure about in the modding community.

Thank you for your time zzpulp , we'll see what will come out in the future (If something will come out) Bye

The hardware-built treshold is set to about 102.
Anybody who overclock the 7900GS here are at least in the 80s'.
Mine peaks at 92. Never experienced instability because of it.
Perhaps in the long run it will alter my card lifespan, but there is no such thing as "long run" with computers heh ?

I'm using the GS Bios at 1.24v, with Dell's 84.69 drivers.
I used to use the GTX bios. The unlocked GS BIOS is less hassle. You only need to flash your card once and then o/c in software mode.

Hope this helps.

Oh SNAP!! I think I screwed up. I had my 9400 replaced with an identically speced M1710 and now that I got BioShock I wanted to flash to the 600c800 bios I was using so succesfully on my 9400's 7900GS. I thought that since the XPS' 7900 was dual piped I would have no issues either.

I didn't get up to speed with changes from rev 0 to rev 1 cards, jumped the gun and just dove into the flashing process. The screen just remains black now and after reading a bit further into this thread I open up my xps to find that it has a REV A01 sticker on the card so I'm guessing its a rev 1 card. I don't have a backup of my original Rev 1's BIOS and I already used a blind flashing CD that flashes back to the stock.rom provided in this ISO and the automatic flash proceeds succesfully (the num lock, scroll lock and caps lock lights flash) and it reboots itself as usual with the blind flash CD but still a black screen.

Anyone have a Rev 1 7900GS BIOS available so that I can try blind flashing to the original Rev 1 BIOS and see if I can get her back up? Please help!! This is also my work computer (I"m an MIS) and I'm gonna have a really bad day tomorrow without my laptop.

Thanks!

How do i make an iso disk from the rom?
the file is an iso (an image of a cd) so you need nero or something similar to burn the image to disc, make sure you dont use a writing method like data cd, do a search for free image burning software. The image contains many different bioses for the 7900gs

ok i burned an iso with alcohol 120 and it put all the roms on it from that original file is that right...? Or is the cd supposed to have only the one rom i need on it?

I've also tried many different drivers. I hit that 3d mark score with stock Nvidia drivers. If you want my opinion, that's what I've scored the highest with, and all 'tweaked' drivers are derived from Nvidia drivers anyway. Try not to use Dell drivers, as they are dumbed down for safety. Go to Nvidia.com, get the latest driver, and make sure your quality settings are on the highest performance. That's all I do. I tried a couple of modded drivers, but the one I actually got working only worked for a few boot-ups before I got a blue screen of death and Windows wouldn't boot anymore. I had only used Nvidia drivers up until then, and that's probably all I'll use from now on. My resolution limitations are why I am running 3dmark05 instead of 06. It is acceptable to run 1024x768 in 3dmark05, whereas 1280x1024 is acceptable for 06. I mean you can benchmark at whatever res you want...but in the forums here there are certain standards that must be met. F.E.A.R. runs at 1024x768, so benchmarking for that game at 1440x900 doesn't make a whole lot of sense. You will think you are getting poorer performance than you really are. Do you have a dual- or single-pipe? Benchmarking, for me, has been a lengthy process. I started with the 'sweet spot' v600c800.rom. HUGE jump over a stock 7900GS. Of course I couldn't stop there. Most of the roms are in 5-10 Mhz increments, so to get it perfect, I had to make my own roms in 1 MHz increments. It's a lot of trial and error. In the end, the only thing that you may not recover from is a bad flash. If you clock too high, you'll just artifact real bad. I don't know if any of this even helped you. Zzpulp will probably post some more useful info when he sees your post.
You mentioned that you put your settings in the control panel for performance is that irght... or do you put it on "let the application decide"?

http://home.tele2.es/jlgm/peng.html have a look here all different roms on the disc. Pick which one is good for you and boot the computer from the cd you made. Make sure you have one of the revision cards listed. You can check by the bios version.
