7900GS + GTXBios = 7900GSX - Page 48

perhaps you have revision 1 of the GS card, im sure the bios you had flashed is for a revision 0. You could use nibitor to read your own bios and change the clock speeds and then flash it back.

Your right,
On further investigation I do have the revision 1 board.
I an obviously a bit of a numpty novices at this, Is there a definitive stable setting I could use to improve the cards performance.
My 3dmark05 (free trial version) score is only 3500 I have no idea how some people are getting 8/9k
could someone point me in the right direction before I permanently paperweight my card?

Dell 9400
7900gs go rev1 card
bios A09
2gb ram
My 3dmark05 was at 9877 today with my 2500 quadro
I know that on a revision 1 card the memory wont clock as high as on the rev 0. But when i had my GS i flashed the clocks to 500/600 (gtx clocks)and it was fine all the time. When some people have had there memory to 800
3500 score is rather low for 3dmark05, i was getting that with my 7800go videocard. You should be getting around 7000 with a 7900gs.
Make sure in the driver settings that you have it set to performance and not quality or both. Also make sure that you dont have any processes running that are not needed.
What cpu do you have? also what drivers are you running for your 7900gs?

Try using the mobileforce drivers and see if that helps, The drivers section is here

No but you can alter your clocks to 500/600 and have it the same as a gtx, just use nibitor and save your own bios and then flash it back. I know the memory doesnt go as high on rev 1 but you can still overclock it rather well.
thaks alot for your support.... i think that's the only way to do it
any suggestions on how high to go?
(i use a dell fan control center so heat is no problem)

what if i select in the device area gtx? in nibitor
post #953 of 1054
i would start at 500/600 and see how you go.

I've got a RevA01 card with the go7900GTX BIOS.
I only just got it and it was how it came.
Did think it was odd as I though it wasn't possible to do so.

Card is running happy @600/800Mhz.

Not keen to experiment as I've just got it working again after my RevA00 card died.

Actually its not weird at all. There is already the flashing process of a RevA00 GS -> RevA00 GTX. It also appears that (by manufacturing and file sizes) that there is a RevA01 GS -> RevA01 GTX. If anyone needs me to post any of these rom's I will. I think I have every rev since the 6800 go vanilla.

Edit: If you guys have the space to host it at LV2G that can work. All stock roms sum up to 1.06 MB and would be ~2.12 MB if there was need to unlock them as well.
i am interested in modding the gs to gtx for higher Mhz but also to UNLOCK that stupid battery powermizer (i need high power and overclocking on battery)
Rev 01!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well no amount of mods I do is gonna allow your battery to supply more power to the card. Yes I can allow you to use whichever clocks you want on battery but the battery will not even be able to deliver enough power for the stock 3d clocks.

Of course we have space, we host the JL ROMS and even all the i9400 BIOS's

Do you need a 9 cell battery? Or a 130 watt power supply to maintain stability when you OC the 7900 GS or is that just a myth? I OCed it way high, but I think the card runs too hot and games will freeze.
The power brick will not deliver enough power as you increase the frequencies. Many people up the voltage which increases the power absorbed and increasing the frequency absorbs more power as well. You don't need the 9 cell though if you are hooked to AC. The 2d clocks of the card are usually unchanged, so the card should behave normally on battery power.
