Touchpad of Death

Well a clean install of the newest drivers didnt help. I have isolated the problem somewhat though. Certain web pages cause the pointer to go on the fritz, but if I hit the "Back Button" say to a goole page, full function returns. I guess it looks like Im goind to have to take this up w/ AW, Uniwill and synaptics-

I just had a hard freeze of the touchpad that wouldn't correct itself when rebooting two times. I had just turned the laptop on, opened IE, came here, and POOF, touchpad stopped working, even though the buttons still did. Called AW and complained to tech, asked about getting my money back since I've only had it for 24 hours now. They asked if I would be willing to reinstall the drivers from their website to see if that fixed the problem or not. I did, but as I write this, I'm pretty close to calling customer support and talking about getting a refund.

Very disappointed with this touchpad nonsense. I don't understand how they can send these things out with such a "rigorous" testing program they claim to have and not have at least ONE instance of touchpad meyham.

I think I need to think on this.

These touchpad problems don't sound good at all. Does anyone know if the Area51m's have the same issue? I agree with Epiphany that these things shouldn't get through such a thorough quality program, especially the number of issues being reported here. It doesn't reflect well on a company that prides itself on quality.

wow makes me want to buy one.. not :X

From my understanding, doughnuts, the Area51M use the exact same touchpad as the Sentia's...

Unfortunately I was 3 minutes late in calling customer service to see about returning this thing. It's very disappointing to have such issues. When I called tech support I asked if he had any idea on how widespread the problem was, and he seemed oblivious to the issue. I then politely asked him to look at their own tech support forums and search "touchpad" to see just how insane this issue really is. Told him about this place as well.

But I don't know, since I reinstalled the drivers from the AW site, I haven't had any serious issues, but it has jumped across the screen on me already...

Gonna sleep on it tonight, and see how I feel in the morning.

I hope you can get it sorted out. It finally arrives just to go back again - that'd be a real bummer.

I don't think i'm having those problems... but I've only been at it for a 2 days... and between the ram being knocked loose by UPS and the harddrive going out I havent' had much time to worry about the touchpad yet! ha

is everyone else having this problem?

please explain the pic. what is it supposed to solve?

I moved the slider down to 1/2 way, and it seemed to solve the respone problem, but it took me a week to move slider across the screen so I wouldnt consider it a solution. maybe Im missing something?

PS usb mouse works fine all the time and has no bearing (plugged in or not)on touchpad performance.

I called this morning to get my RMA # and send it back. The saving grace was the fact I was able to talk them out of charging me the 15% restocking fee, based on the trouble I've had with that touchpad. So, either tonight or tomorrow afternoon (depending on the speed of my repackaging) it'll be on a UPS truck heading to Miami.

So disappointing...

So you are not going to replace it then, I guess... Sorry to hear the bad news.
No, not replacing it. The troubles with that touchpad, and the abundance of problems I've seen around the net regarding AW touchpads have left a bitter taste in my mouth. I just decided to hook up a wireless PCI card to my desktop and go with that...

At least I know I won't have any troubles since I've had the thing for a few years and everything works great.

*Update* the problem only occurs in IE!!!! and only on certain sites!!!

Including AW homepage!!!

If i close IE, the problem dissapears, or navigate to a working page like AWforums then problem dissappears?????

Sorry man, I'm having the problem on Mozilla Firebird.. in the middle of reading this post it moved to the upper right and clicked the 'x'..

apparently it doesn't want me reading this...

I have been doing all kinds of combination movements on my touchpad to try to make it freeze, So far no luck. The last time the freezing happened was over a month ago and I was able to recover by clicking the left button.

its not completely frozen, and its directly related to websites(and IE) nothing else causes it, and its only while viewind certain pages if I hit BACK button to say google then the pointer works fine.
