IBM T21 T22 Comparison Difference?

Hi,

I'm finding it really hard to find this info out by any other means...but can someone tell me what the difference is between a T21 and a T22.

The only reason I ask is that my T22 LCD has gone on the blink, so I bought a T21 cheap on the popular auction site (one with a working screen) and now I want to swap all the best bits from each model over to make one decent laptop.

So, can someone tell me the difference between these two models? I can't see any, but if so, why the different model numbers?

Thanks in advance.

Well I'm not sure, I might be mitstaking but they should be compatible. Bouth models have ECC RAM - so watch out for that if you wnat to upgrade, moust of the RAM modules are NON ECC.
Acording to IBM's official site they use the same screen types:

Hope this will help. Good luck on the repair. I know what it takes. I did that with a Toshiba 4030.

The repair went well....and apart from the fact my new T21 screen is a little less bright than my old defunct T22 screen and has one bright red dead pixel...all is good.

It took ages mind...and a few times I worried which screws were going to go back where?!?...but it all worked out ok (even repasted the CPU and cleaned the heatsink!).

I suppose the reason I want to know the difference is also to work out which one is the best, cos now I have a T21 mobo and spares which are no use to me, unless its a better machine and in which case I will swap parts over again to piece together the best machine I can get away with.

Anyone got any ideas at all. The IBM website is less than helpful in this area.

Thanks in advance.

Do a :Google: search for "Undead Pixel" or "UD Pixel". It's a free utility that can 'revive' dead pixels. Some are beyond repair, but it works fantastic in many cases. It's fairly self explanatory: Hit run, place the blinking square that appears over the dead pixel and leave it for a couple hours just to be certain.

As for the differences between the T-21 and T-22...

I can tell you this much, when I worked on a PC rollout/refresh contract we treated both models exactly the same. We had both in stock and when an employee needed a new laptop for whatever reason they got whatever one we grabbed off the shelf and image.

If you really want, check out the specs of each component online at the actual manufacturers websites and decide.

Thanks for the Undead Pixel trick....I'm running it now and will see in a few hours wether it has helped or not.

Don't really fancy a component by component comparison of the T21 vs T22....but it sounds from your experience like they are practically the same....especially if you can just shove the same HD image on each model.

Just don't understand why they have two models though...maybe a regional thing or country of manufacture?

The T22 had the option of an SXGA+ screen and slightly faster CPUs. Everything else, even motherboard, is essentially the same as the T21.

CPU speeds availible on the T21 were 800, 850 and 900mhz. On the T22, those speeds were 850, 900 and 1000mhz. All ran on a 100mhz front side bus.
