There should be no limit on your card reader since this its still just flash memory. As long as it is a physicall format the card reader accepts it will read any amount of data not mater how large. We are still seeing huge leaps in the size/cost of flash memory. Hopefully this will speed up the transition away from current Hard Drive systems with spinning platters like a record player.

The manual for my 9860 says that the card reader is SD capable, so it should be likewise on the 9880 -- check your manual. A note of caution however: my manual also says that my card reader is MS Pro compatible, but my card card reader will not read my 512MB MS Pro stick. Others have reported similar problems. If you can't get confirmation on it online, I would recommend you get your card from a local store and make sure you're able to return it if it doesn't work.

I found with my 9860 I was SOL in terms of the new SD card formats (SDHC). I got this japanese panasonic mp3 player SD570V which is unfortunately DRM'd to hell (would not have bought had I been able to read japanese), and the software/mem card refuses to work in the card reader, so I am forced to operate indirectly through USB, ugh.

I tried to reply earlier, but could not remember my password. Duh.

When I read about SDHC from SanDisk website, they say to always insure SDHC is specified on the device you want to use. Good advice. I also read SanDisk sells their new SDHC USB adapter bundled with the SD version of SDHC cards. So, you could just use the SDHC adapter that is supposed to come with the SD card.

I needed an SD adapter, so I got the SDHC adapter from SanDisk for about $30 - without memory. Which is why I'm angry at myself for being so dumb - after I read its free with the new cards.

Whenever I get a new flash memory device, I try to test it in all my buddies phones, PDAs, etc. I found the 4GB standard SD 133x sells very cheap and works for my Ipaq h5555 and in Treo 700w. Maybe you can test out someone else's SDHC card in your laptop once your ready to buy?

Good luck.
