New monitor problem ?

Hey guys i wanted to ask a question about my new monitor. First of all i have a Compaq Presario R3430US http://reviews.cnet.com/Compaq_Presa...9.html?tag=nav

and today i purchased this monitor for it: Viewsonic VX1935wm 19" HD LCD 1440x900 resolution.


As soon as i hooked it up the laptop started making a deep engine noise, maybe my video card cant support it, i dont know. If anyone could tell me if the monitor is safe to use i would appresciate it.

well, specs call for for MAX external = 1290x800 (same as laptop lcd)
try set the monitor to this resolution and see

or u might want to try http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/ together with the latest ati driver (standard disclaimer applies)
