I,ve installed NFSCarbon on the Acer 5672 X1600. With the Mobile Catalyst 6.10 it runs very smooth. It actually runs better then my desktop single core with nvidia 6800GT.

You can definely tell it was optimized for the Xbox 360. I have a feeling this game utilizes both cores in the acer and this game seems to be working better with ATI cards.

I have it running on 1024*768 with noAA and triliniar filtering. All settings max, exept world detail on high and blurr off.

I am impressed with the screen. It has 16ms response time and there has only been minimum at best ghosting. Nice. :-)

Have you been having a lot of games crasg on you lately? I ask, because I've never had a single game crash on me once, until I installed the Cat 6.10 drivers. Now UT2004 crashes and throws this error:

UT2004 Build UT2004_Build_[2005-11-23_16.22]

OS: Windows XP 5.1 (Build: 2600)
CPU: GenuineIntel PentiumPro-class processor @ 1997 MHz with 1022MB RAM

ReadFile failed: Count=0 BufferCount=1024 Error=Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.

Any ideas? I tried reverting back to previous drivers, but they still throw the same error out.

i have omega 6.9 right now, should i "upgrade"?

Dang ransomed. I wonder if you can reinstall the game. See if that works. I do not have unreal 2004, I would check it out if I did. I have not seen any crashes on the laptop since the driver install. I hope you get that resolved. I would probably copy and paste some of that info on google see if others have had your problem as well. :-(

link1313 I would only upgrade if you have had any trouble with games your playing. Also if you play any real new games such as NFSCarbon or Company of Heroes. There seems to be optimization for those games in the Catalyst 6.10 release. If it aint broke dont fix it. If your enjoying the Omegas, maybe you can wait for the OMEGA 6.10 release.
I mainly upgraded because I wanted to see improved performance in the games I listed, and there is better performance. Plus I wanted to find a stable driver release that would get me away from "ACER ATI Drivers" yuck. If acer updated there ATI drivers I wouldn't put them down so much.

On ATI's site it says they still don't support Acers. Will I encounter any major problems by using these offical drivers or should I stick with the Omega drivers?

The Official ATI mobility catalyst drivers are working great so far with my Acer Aspire 5672 with x1600 ATI card. Don't try to download directly from there site. Get it from my link at the begining of this thread.

I guess it depends on your laptop. It may work for you, it may not. Just because it says on there website that your laptop is not "officially supported", does not mean it wont work.

Another question to ask your self is, do you really need to upgrade? My last post before this should give you a very small reason why or why not to upgrade. Also read up on the whole thread and see what other people think.

Based on other posts: Dont upgrade to new 6.10 if you have an Acer travelmate 8204. Naselhair said his BSOD so he reverted back. I also heard of people with the new Acer Ferrari laptop with the X1150 ATI card have had bad luck with this new set as well.

So far, most people who have the Aspire 5672 (both X1400 and x1600) have faired well in new games performance.

If you do decide to try them out, I would just recommend creating a system restore point before anything else. If you dont like them just system restore back and you should be fine. :-)

If your pretty satisfied on your current omega drivers, then I would not upgrade or maybe wait for Omega's next release.

Ahh, just my opinion, anybody else agree/disagree? Good Luck :-)

Ive been using the 6.10 driver since it came out No Problems in my acer single core with the
X700
I should be fine, seeing as I have the same laptop as you (5672 w/X1600). Yeah I was just wondering because obviously Acer dosn't release updates and ATI never said they supported them.

Problem Fixed

Note that I didn't realize that I had a problem with my drivers before this month, because I haven't played UT2004 since a LAN party at my house back in early summer. So I didn't know there was a problem, as it wasn't being evident in other games.

Well looks like the new Catalyst 6.11 drivers are out. I started a new thread in the support section in this forum.

I havent seen any mention of Unreal Tournament 2004 in the release notes. Probably wont fix it. Driver problems are never fun and are really time consuming. An example for me was my hassle with the 6.9 drivers. It could take 1-2 hours or more to mess with these software problems. In your case Ransomed1 I would assume the 2+ hours or diagnosis. :-)

As for me i'm sticking with the 6.10's till I start seeing problems, then I may try the 6.11's.

**OFF TOPIC--Ransomed1**
Ohh yeah, to update the 22' monitor purchasing. I'm holding that off a bit. If playing console games on it produces no lag. I may be deep pocketing it and heading into HDTV land. Im looking into a Sony KDF-46E2000. 720p res (1080p still too expensive 4 me) 46" rear-projection. This will be my cristmas present too me. The main thing is it has to pass the "gaming lag problem" for me to buy it. My brother is getting a Wii, and if it lags, Wario wares going to be horrible on it. "crosses fingers" woot.

You're right in your observation that ATI might never fix a problem with UT2004, but they WILL start taking notice when people with new cards complain about not being able to play games that should work. Also, they could possibly end up fixing it if it starts showing up as a problem in other games. Just a thought.

Very cool about the new monitor! I worried about going too big because of the resolution and clarity issues. But I HAVE played UT2004 on a 60" rear projection TV, and it was very very nice.

So far the 22" Acer monitor has been blissful.
