Acer AL2216 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor

I did a search but didn’t get any results for “AL2216” so I thought I’d make a quick thread about this awesome monitor (at an incredible price!)

History:

I first found out about this monitor on gizmodo.com, where they originally said it would cost $600. Well, when release time came closer, Acer announced that the sales price would actually be $399! I was so pumped that I immediately told my wife that this was the LCD monitor I wanted.

Well, as the months passed and I noticed that you could pre-order (stores online were already putting them up for sale), was I tempted? Yes. But then I forgot about buying the monitor for a while, got on with my life, and then suddenly my friend Rob is trying to get me to buy a sweet deal of a Dell monitor, to match the one he just got. He was able to buy a 20.1” monitor for about $240! He was telling me to get on e-bay, buy a coupon (20% off, or something like that) and then go to the Dell site and order the monitor and put in the code to get the great deal of $240.

Well, when he showed me his monitor, it was beautiful. I don’t remember the model #, but I really wanted one. BUT… I’d prefer to get a monitor that had the brand name to match my Acer. So I decided to get online and check out prices again. I look and see that Circuit City is now selling my favorite widescreen 22” monitor for only $299! Now that IS with a $50 rebate, so technically I paid $350 for it. I also got a full warranty for another $100 that covers any and all damage (accidental coverage as well) to the monitor for 4 years. Here is the monitor: Acer AL2216

If anyone is interested, the rebate is only until this Saturday, so hurry. Plus, the store where I just got mine at, and another store in the area both just sold out of these!

Now, enough with the details that you probably didn’t want to hear about anyway… and let me tell you about the monitor. If there is some interest, I will post pics of it for you. Otherwise, just do a search and find your own on Google or wherever.

Review:

This monitor is beautiful. I’ve seen some large Dell LCDs that caused me to be quite envious, and a Samsung that a guy has at the office I work at that I like, but never one that looked this good. This thing is massive. I would use it as a TV, if I didn’t already have one to watch movies on! 19” LCDs seem small to me now. The color is great, and the native resolution (though only 1680 x 1050) matches my notebook exactly, which is perfect. I have a hard time taking my eyes off the wonderful, accurate, bright colors. It’s got DVI and VGA inputs, and includes 6 foot cables for both. This thing is just stinkin’ huge! Kudos to Acer for building such a great monitor, and then selling it at such a great price.

I don’t really know what more to say about it, but I will keep you guys posted, if there is interest.
