Hello guys,
hope you'll help me out with this.
Here is my predicament:
I currently posses a new DV 6000z - it's a really fantastic piece apart from one issue that bothers me extremely: the notebook is not really silent, the fan is on every 2nd minute for about 30-40seconds and more. I had it sent to HP service centre but they did not fix it and simply sent it back. As I work in a library everyday, I truly need a SILENT computer. Hence, I have decided to return this piece to HP and make them either replace it with a DV6000t (which might be more silent due to Intel processor) or give me back my money. If the latter, I would buy a new laptop:
1) Asus F3F (900 USD after discounts and tax)
Core Duo T5500E
Graphics card Intel integrated 945PM
15.4" WideScreen WXGA [1280x800]
1GB DDR2 533MHz
100GB 5400RPM SATA
8X Dual-Layer DVD-RW Drive
6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (lasts up to 3,5 hours)
1.3M Pixel Web-Camera,4 in 1 card reader
Microsoft Windows XP Home
2 Year ASUS Global Warranty,

2) HP DV6000t (after rebates and tax 1120USD)
Core Duo T2050 (1.60 GHz),
Graphics Card 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen
1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x512MB
80 GB 5400 RPM
8X Dual-Layer DVD-RW Drive
6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (lasts max. 2 - 2 hours)
1.3M Pixel Web-Camera,4 in 1 card reader
3 year limited warranty
Windows XP Media
ASUS:
PROS: it's supposed to have a better build quality - apparently VERY SILENT notebooks, better processor, BETTER BATTERY, greater HDD and STATA, XP comes extra as an installation CD (ie. not preinstalled), overall a bit cheaper
Cons - worse Graphic card, have to buy through a retailer, have never seen it before
HP:
PROS: overall I like the build of DV6000 series very much - great design, has got good speakers (important to me), XP Media
CONS: I am really pissed with them now, I am afraid that even dv6000t might not eliminate noise issues, Battery life sucks (1,5 hours on average!), windows preinstalled and comes with a lot of bloatware, HDD is a bit smaller
Things essential to me:
SILENCE, battery, good screen and comfortable keyboard, good speakers, webcam, design + likelihood that I can use it without any problems for the next few years!
Things I do with a computer:
I do not play games at all (hence no need for powerful graphic card or CPU), I use it for surfing the web, writing papers and watching movies! - ie. both computers already surpass what I really expect from a notebook.
What do you think, should I go for Asus? Should I give HP one more chance? Or is there any other computer which would be comparable in price/functionality? (ie.it needs to have all the functions including webcam etc.).
I will appreciate all your help,
christina
