Hi guys

As most of you know windows vista is comming out soon. I was wondering are if anyone has tried RC1 of windows vista.?..If there are specific drivers that are needed? If anyone knows if Acer is gonna support windows vista and give us drivers? do we even need new drivers for windows vista? will all the old programs run under vista, for example, nero, firefox...symmantec antivirus..etc.

Please share any information you have? I am interesting and curious as most of you are!
Thanx

p.s. I currently have a 5672 x1400 video driver 2 gig ram

yea i ran the latest version on my 5672,x1600 1gb ram, and came off without a hitch, ran smooth ati vista drivers worked fine, haven't had a problem yet, although u are probably better off with the 2gb, vista uses almost 1gb to it's self.

Acer & Vista

My Acer 5102WLMi is running Vista RC2 w/o problems. All hardware ID'ed except for PCI Flash Memory. The Bison Video Cam was recognized but have not found software for it to work. Hopefully Acer will provide the needed drivers.

In short Vista WORKS GREAT!!

I downloaded RC2 from Microsoft when it was available. Keep your eyes open, they may make a RTM version available.

So The RTM version of Vista is out. I hae 5672 and my system has problems with the hibernate and sleep function.. whenever my system retuns from these modes. IE does not start. The network adapter freezes and cannot connect to the internet and some of the other functions also freeze. This is weird

Other things I noticed: although the sound works, I do not have the original audio compatibility that came with the XP Acer drivers. I have a very simple audio interface.

The card reader was not recognized by vista but I installed the old card reader drivers from XP and it seems to work perfectly.

Touchpad works but not fully functional, the four way scroll wheel doesnt work. and i miss all the features like click and hold etc that came with the acer( synaptec) drivers.

I hope the next version of synaptec drivers adresses the issues with firefox, the four way scroll wheel never worked with firefox, even in XP which is a shame

POWER: It seems that vista has a very suffisticated way to manage power. and you can litterally set many different things. However I doubt that is utilising any of it on my laptop. because my battery life has decreased and I miss the old power settings from acer software.

I was unable to flash my Bios. I get the blue screen of death whenever I try to flash my bios...

My thoughts is that vista does not completely recognize the API and Bios for acer; 1) hibernation, sleep/suspend problems. battery not like it used to. flash problems

everything else runs smooooooth....i love the vista interface. I hate that you can turn off indexing services.

My computer stats:
acer aspire 5672, x1400, 2gb ram, 120 HD. T2300 processor Centrio duo @ 1.67 ghz

anyone have any suggestions or any other experiences???

Yeah,Vista really sounds like something that's ready for release to the GP.
Let's revisit this in a year or so....

K my experience..

I have a Aspire 9503 and getting vista to run is a no go here. I get the thing to download and get it to run but it won't stick or go or do anything but be the same ole wiz kid that it is.

I CAN tell you that you can run the Microsoft 2007 office products and they are great. I have the most recent pre-release version that I been testing out and so far it is running good. All the updates and everything work fine too.

But if I could get vista to work I would be stoked!!!

Oh and all the new acers will be coming up vista upgradable or vista installed. Right now acer has this program that if you bought an acer between such and such dates, you can get the upgrade free when it is released in the full version.

The RTM is running fine on my Travelmate 4400, I was worried about Aero not running on it(x700 mobility w/64 mb of dedicated memory) but everything went fine the default driver : enable memory sharing by default.... Its running smooth but I cant install the catalysts, the installer says that it cant detect the card....Anyone got a workaround for that?

Thank you for contacting Acer America. I suggest you download and install the Vista Upgrade Advisor. The link below will take you to that website. This advisor will scan your system and examine all hardware, drivers, software etc on your system and then give you a report showing what conflicts and incompatibilities Vista will have. This will allow you to know ahead of time if your system will handle Vista, if your software will work or not and if your drivers will work. Acer has not yet posted Vista drivers as this operating system is not yet released. If your notebook model is to be supported with the Vista upgrade, drivers will be made available after Vista releases. Please keep in mind Acers support is limited to the OEM operating system. We have not yet been informed which existing models will be supported.

Vista Business has been released to the public, however I still have not seen any drivers for it from Acer. I would also assume that Acer will be providing both 32 bit and 64 bit drivers for their hardware.

yep, vista is here but i dont think that u must be worry about that. those guys in redmond does have to. vista has a very graphic interface and consumes plenty of resources, ram specially and hd disk alocation too. why people need to be in a trend ? i dont need to buy it if i dont, change my system only bcause the rest of them want to do it? i dont think so. see wht happend with xp lots of glitter but ...
plenty of patches and security downloads. they said the best they said the newst n all wonder xp. well i hasd to stick wit it because i need to run some prog in xp but i regularly use linux. dual boot . no virus threats no stupid
worms or fix tools to remove trjans. be calm and wait till all the glamour dissapears then check all the pros n cons.

Old programs do work with Vista (I have it on my desktop that I built).

Drivers-

You will need Vista drivers. As far as whether Acer will support them, I don't know, but I personally use Omega drivers on my Acer since I found Acer's driver support to be lacking.

While Vista Business has been released, I believe it's only available through Window's software intiative program (I probably got the name wrong), but basically, you pay money to be in a program (generally companies do) to be the first to get programs and I believe you can beta test them to.

use the winxp driver...

ENE CB-712/714 Full Package Version : 2.07.05
Date : 2006-06-13

just go to your PCI FLASH Memory remainder, and update driver, looking into the CARDBUS or CARDREAD directory, in the sub called Win2KXP.

one of those has the driver and it will work with vista 32-bit.

enjoy!
in vista 32bit btw, you cannot use the recently released catalysts for vista. also, modding them is hard since we dont have an original oem vista driverset catalyst to work from in terms of the inf files... YET!

waiting on acer sending the vista + driver cd
post #17 of 17
there are now vista ati drivers for acer notebooks with xpress1100 on the acer ftp under the 3000/5100/51110 drivers directory.. under a dir called VISTA!
