post #1 of 11

Hi I just bought a new HD for my sager 9860. when i ordered my notebook, I opted for a 60GB ATA hard drive but i was told that the notebook can use SATA hard drives too so that is what i ordered. When my new Seagate Momentus 160GB SATA HD came it doesnt fit with the ports. how do i get the SATA port to change it with the ATA ones? here are some pics to clarify what I am trying to say:

This is the ports I have for my notebook HD

The 60GB ATA HD I've been using

The new 160GB HD I've just ordered

Some help please!!!!

Well, I don't have a solution. I have a 5760 and the media bay option, 2nd HDD Bracket $25.00USD, holds the notebook SATA drive like you got. When I got mine, all the local stores had only one - 60GB, no alternatives. The good news is that many of the newer laptops take SATA drives, and a 160GB SATA is something not yet in local stores (at least where I live). You can probably sell the SATA and get exactly what you need. Good luck.

I need to get the one on the the left!! argh!

@mhthomas5
thanks for the tips but i really want to change the port to use SATA since SATA hard drives are faster and better than PATA hard drives.

I had problems configuring my 2nd SATA HDD in my 5760 because it has RAID option in BIOS and kept trying to boot from 2nd HDD no matter what I did. Finally, I left RAID in BIOS turned off, and configured the 2nd SATA HDD in BIOS boot section - "do not boot".
Thanks for the picture. I might not have believed it if I had not seen. Basically, you need something like this?

And, another thought. You might test 2x HDD configuration with your current ATA cabling and BIOS just to make sure that cable supports 2 independent (non RAID) configuration. In the media bay option on my 5760, the port used by the CDROM is about an inch long but the SATA HDD Bracket goes into a second socket that is very tiny - smaller than the size of a typical USB cable end. I was worried this second tiny port was only for RAID, but in fact it works great for a 2nd independent SATA drive (once BIOS is set).

ahhhh!! the link for the SATA cable is so expensive!! $68 for a piece of cable!!?? I'm gonna give sager an email if i can buy that off of them. it has to be cheaper than $20 i believe!!!

Totally agree. I googled and found another link (no picture) for same thing that cost $10. But, shipping might have been more. Try google. The reason I posted that link ($68) was because they had the same picture as yours, and the items said "in stock" (sometimes that is BS however on the internet). You can probably use google, find a cable for $10 and call for availability and shipping costs. No problem, me thinks. :-)

For example, but I do not know about this website, just googled it up:
http://www.rjtech.com/miva/merchant....Code=HDCB-D900
They give a phone # and it might be good idea to call and see if this cable is a match, e.g. has two drive connectors you need, and if they have it in stock. If you are really curious you can probably check the BBB on their business name and address.

If Sager does not Help I can vouch for RJTech as other customers have successfully ordered from them before with good results.
