Airport Security Thought My 8890 Was A Bomb!!!

well not that serious, but they did swab it and check it all over to make sure it was a real notebook! i guess the generic "Notebook Computer" sticker on the bottom didn't help

i don't blame them, it looks like a generic notebook, and it is pretty heavy compared to other notebooks.

You're a tease.

I have heard this happen to someone else on the fourms when the 8890 first came out.
"Is that a gun in your pocket, or a you just glad I own a Sager..."

You gotta love airport security. Totally clueless and doing a tough job. I take my hat off to them. Personally I think we should all travel naked. That way you can't conceal weapons of any sort. On second thoughts no. Lets just leave that topic alone shall we...

Well, I was about to ask just what you guys have going on there down under.

But then I realized . . . oh nevermind.

I've been suggesting naked airline travel for years. Plus a special compartment for children who can't sit still and be quiet. Perhaps out on the wing?

I had them swab my 8890 when I first got it multiple times when traveling between miami and NY. Both ways several times. I think its the weight that throws them off, and the fact that I ask them to pleeeeeaaassseeee be carefull with my baby!!!!!

Just make sure that you never leave the Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album in there stuck on the "Time" track with the Audio DJ active.

They will poo their pants when it starts up.

Btw - what do you mean by swab?

haha thats great

they take a q tip and or cloth material and run it across the case and then put it in a machine that Iassume detects explosives and the like. Its pretty fast, but do I need to take off my shoes and stuff? I mean if they are going to search me have some pretty women around....

Did they say A bomb... or THE bomb?

FYI...Swabbing is now done practically everywhere on a random basis. Doesn't have to be a laptop or even an eletronic device, but that's what they usually target.

You guys must be really, really paranoid.
I guess Osama basically lost the battle but won the war.
I do pity you guys - you have reverted back to McCarthyism all over again.
Sad to see

well unless you need your laptop for buisness i wouldnt even take it to the airport......if one of those security guys should happen to break your 2000 or 3000 laptop do you think they are gonna pay to fix it ? or even admit they broke it what if one airport wants to take it apart and look inside and not just swab it? not all airports operate the same.
Nah they did it to my thinkpad too. They dont do it at every airport either. They were more concerned with my belt buckle on the way home.

Give us 9 months Aussie. Hopefully we will roll it all back after correcting a little mistake made in the 2000 election.

Pretty much every laptop that goes through the scanners now gets scanned - I have mine scanend every time I travel. Its no biggy - just a gas chromatograph. The advantage of having your machine swabbed is that it prevents the old trick to steal laptops.

You put your laptop on the conveyor. The guy in front of you then holds up the line and his friend on the other side just picks up your laptop bag and walks off like its his. Pretty common here in the states. And yes we have reverted back to McCarthyism.

Reverted? We never got out of it. All things considered, however, there's no other country I'd rather live and work in.
