M9700 to ship Nov9th!!! (woot) - Page 3

I have been told that all the m9700s shipped out of Ireland come with a free mousepad, even though it doesnt say it on the website... but then again I was told that by a sales rep, can they be trusted?

I found a novel way of dealing with the girlfreind/new laptop issue, we're gonna watch the entire Aliens Quadrilogy as soon as it arrives (well, after I've benchmarked it etc etc, but she has lectures all day), they are her favorite films and I can think of few better ways of christening a new Alienware laptop

Anyway, hope they finish your laptop soon NIN, if its any consolation I ordered mine a week before you and I still dont have mine yet, so your not the only one this is happening to.

Thanks Anarion, however I just checked the site and despite the estimate they gave me (end of next week shipping, and delivery 3 days after that), it just showed phase 10!!!!! I can't believe it! They told me it got through sooner and now the dev date is next wednesday!

I wanted to watch all the Alien movies on my lappy too first thing I got it, just for nostalgy's sake. Then I realized I saw all 4 of them two months ago, and half a year before that, and well basically a 100 times already

If the rep told about the mouse pad though, it should be there. Despite what I've read on the i-net, reps have never misinformed me in any negative way so far. And I asked quite some questions.

Hmm NIN, I bet we're going to get ours on the same day. Won't that be ironic? The time it's taken for my poor little laptop to travel from Florida all the way across to country to California has let you catch up lol. We'll see.

The coolest part is how we keep catching up on eachother... and in the end it's gonna be a tie anyway

Ya we may have to settle this online in a match of Civilization4 or some other new game I haven't been able to play up until my M9700

I haven't, and that certainly because it won't play with my current Geforce Go5200 64mg RAM lol

I'll check it out though, I plan on buy several new games to enjoy on this new lappy!

Dawn of War is immense and well worth getting, I've got a lappy with a Geforce Go5300 (its no faster, just harder to get drivers for) so I'm doing much the same thing, buying computer games specifically for the new laptop if/when it arrives.

** This is a Customer Service situation from an Alienware fan. It's a big long but it is worth sharing for the sake of the consumer.

Ok heres is my story. I'm posting this as a new thread because I think it deserves to be seen by folks browsing the various manufacturer forums. Let me first say that I in no way WANT to bash a company. I'm not just bitching because 'I wanna play gamez NOW dOOd!". Something happened that's not cool so I'm telling everyone.

I began another thread about my purchase of a M9700 AW laptop. I maxed it out, and I'm stoked. I bought and paid for it completely on the 2nd of Nov.. At the time the special included "ships as fast as 7 days." My laptop was delayed a week anyway, which to me is fine because I want quality work. Can't rush perfection. I found the delay acceptable.

During the original sale the rep told me that because I live in Hawaii my computer would ship "Fedex 2day express." for $100. I was glad to know it would be here quick, even if a little late in production. Once my LT reached p10 I checked Fedex to see it was expected to be here the 22nd of Nov. This would be 9 days from the end of production. I called AW and (I'll call him) M told me that my sales rep J made a mistake. J should have told me the laptop goes by truck to Cali 3-4 days THEN 2day express to Hawaii. Disappointed for the mistake, but I can live with an honest oversight, I didn't question him.

Fedex in Cali gets my laptop early this morning (Fri), I'm excited so I call Fedex today to see when it will be here, Saturday or Monday (2day, right?). I'm told by Fedex that my laptop was shipped "Ground Home" which is the slowest method of shipping they offer. It will be here in 6 more days. What? I call AW sales and my rep C tells me that Hawaii is supposed to be airshipped 2day express and my order in the computer shows "Ground Home." He agrees with me, but sales can do nothing, and Customer Service is closed till Monday. C makes notes and I'll call back Monday to talk to Victor.

We'll see!

Two things:

#1 I My sales rep didn't know how his company's shipping policies (or he lied but I give the benefit of the doubt). Ok, whatever.

#2 The rep Mack I talked to after finding out out my laptop was in a truck instead of a plane after p10 lied to me.

** It clearly showed in the computer my order went out "Ground Home" and Mack saw this yet told me it DID go 2day express. He had the same info on his screen everyone else had. The order had already shipped, they didn't modify the shipping method after Fedex picked it up. Why do this?

I love AW products. I love the computers. I love that they're from Miami because I'm from Florida and have crew down there. I do not like spending $3800 and being told things that aren't true. I want my $100 shipping charge for a 23lb. box groundshipped refunded, and I want an explanation from management why this happened. I still want my computer obviously, and I'm sure I'll love it. I'm still a fan, but as a consumer I deserve an explanation.

I don't want to accuse a company of poaching shipping charges to increase profit, so I'll wait for a response from AW. My $100 would have more than covered airshipping from Miami.

I'll find out what Victor has to say Monday, and I'll update.

Just keep your pants on... It seems to me your gripe is with FedEx if they didn't ship the thing correctly from California.

AW has their own FedEx depot in their manufacturing plant, but they do not share the same computer system that FedEx does. AW only can see what FedEx puts into their system.

I don't think anyone intentionally lied to you, AW would have nothing to gain by doing so.

If you paid extra for the two day from California shipping, you should get a refund.

And good luck hearing from Victor, he's a manager that deals with issues AW can resolve, this isn't one of them. Your computer is in the system so AW can't change anything at this point. It'll get there when it get's there.

It's unfortunate for shipping purposes that you live in Hawaii...

Thanks HH! I know everyone hates a rant, me most of all.

But, it's actually an AW issue. They sent it the wrong ship method. A guy saw that in the system and didn't fess up about it. Hopefully Vic can sort it out.

Looking forward to receiving it later this coming week!

Received my laptop today! Will post screens and benchmark soon, I'm d/ling '05 now.

As I suspected I would, I love this computer. It's very impressive, expecially when sitting next to my poor little i8600. No complaints about the laptop thus far, and I doubt I'll have any whatsoever. Can't wait to get into this thing!

Now, for the sake of conclusion, I will finish the story I began about AW CS. After many days of calls, including 3 conversations today alone, the first of which was 2.5 hours long (no sh!t), I resolved my issue here's what happened. This may be important for anyone else ever ordering from Hawaii! So pay attention if you live out here.

Long and short of the story is this, Alienware screwed up my shipping and offered me a nice gearshop/Amazon gift certificate for the trouble. Junior the sales rep saved the deal, and I owe him a beer. If you're thinking of buying AW, ask for Junior x6190, he actually cares!

What happened is good for two reasons:

First I had the classic CS vs. Sales battle going on, but this time sales stuck up for me and didn't allow CS to screw me. This exposed a couple people that were really doing the wrong thing, hopefully it won't happen to anybody else.

Second, Alienware will now(so they say) be specifying to what island in Hawaii the laptop is actually shipping. Before this incident, the sales reps didn't know that Fedex only goes 2day to Oahu, and it takes longer to the outer islands. They're not sure why, but because of this someone opted to ship my computer by ground-home by mistake. It took a long time to get anyone to admit this, but they eventually did. I'll just say this. Those frontline CS reps will try just about anything on the phone with you. Persistance is most definately the key! And NOT losing ones temper, but being very firm about the FACTS!

So, what I'm hoping is that from now on the sales reps will understand that Hawaii is made up of different islands and shipping here is a unique, and that AW as a company will amend their shipping policy to reflect this. I certainly would never have voluntarily sent a $3500 laptop through a 9day Fedex delivery contractor 3000 mile trip to reach me, all they had to do was give me the choice.

Ahem, and now onto my benchmarking!

Aloha,

She's staring at me from across the room man...dirty looks everywhere.

When I opened the box and started taking pictures, she waved goodbye and told me to look her up when I return to my senses.

Updating drivers and playi

Updating drivers and messing around with 3d05 right now.

I hope you get that thing in the next couple hours...that would really be ironic.

Good luck!

Was planning on doing that yeah, especially a review with a little more info for people who are not only game freaks but also CAD addicts... I plan on using this for many, many cad designs due to the raw 3d power, viewports should render next-to-real on this thing.

Anyway, if there's anything particular that I should put in the review apart from benchies and lots and lots of pictures, please let me know.
