Rather than Edgy Upgrade... took a different route...

and installed Vector 5.8. I tried one upgrade to Edgy... lets just say it didn't go well and leave it at that (I've used linux for a long time... I've never seen a system hosed that bad *shudder*).

Anyway, I decided to try vector again. I used vector briefly back at the 4.1 level, and liked it, but eventually went back to *buntu.

But now, I think I may be stuck here for quite a while. Vector 5.8 is as fast as it's always been, KDE works great (had to slapt-get it), and slapt-get itself has improved to the point where I actually think I PREFER it over apt-get.

Anyway, for anyone that wants the stability of slack, but in a much more cutting edge, user friendly form, I highly recommend this distro!

vector ain't bad, i tried it, tried some other slack-based distros and i just got the message that slack is not my cup of penguin juice. however, instead of going the edgy route (yeah i tried it, hardly impressed) i am still advocating Elive, they recently released a new development version which is very nice...and since its based on Debian, much of your ubuntu skills easily carry over to Elive, not to mention E17 is uber sexy. However... that said I am currently booted up in elive (livecd mode) installing gentoo 2006.1... prolly gonna go with fluxbox as my WM.....mostly b/c i am feeling way too lazy to config e17, and gentoo's setup of XFCE4 is horrible.
