How do you control your Acer Laptop Fan?

The fan seems to come on for short bursts on high speed every 30 to 60 seconds on my Acer 5633. Is there a way to control this?

I have never found a third party tool to control the fan speeds on my Acer laptop(s)
Have your tried elevating your Acer slightly, my high tec (HA!) to get more airflow in the sytem is propping up the laptop using the tops of deodarant can. Elevates the back allowing airflow to get to the airvent.

Are you still using Acer epower management? You haven't got the CPU set on full all the time have you?

Yeah it makes no difference even on low setting. The vent on the left side of the chassis is blocked out with just the vent at the back open. This must be because i only have a GMA 950. I wonder if a more silent fan can be fitted?

I'd uninstall acer epower management to see if that makes a difference, I prefer to keep the system regulated with SpeedStep rather than the Acer software, which is quite a resource hog.
Check your task manager as well to see i any programs are using up CPU time at regular intervals.

Good info Disney, thanks for sharing. I've also noticed a heat and power decrease and fan increase when plugged in, versus battery power. I admit that I still use Acer's Epower management software. I like that it's so easy to set up schemes when on and off battery power, as well as controlling which components are enabled.

I usually don't turn my graphics card down, except when on battery I have it set to always be at it's lowest speeds. My battery still lasts quite long, even during constant use... after 1 year of being drained and filled constantly.

Aww man, You make me wish mine had a ATI chipset. I have the Aspire 5003WLMi with the AMD Turion 64 ML-32, 1.8GHz and 512KB L2 cache, with a SiS M760GX graphics card. I keep my laptop on dynamic switching, so I can keep the tempature down. I also have a Antec cooler that I use from time to time. I noticed my temperature runs around 48C without the cooler, while sometimes jumping up or down. When using the cooler on battery, my temperature is around 40C, with the processor locked at 800MHz.

How do you control an Acer Laptop Fan?

I saw the thread title and i just had to chime in (I own a Ferrari 3200, that has done nothing,NOTHING wrong in 2 years) but sadly is being replaced by an Asus A8Js

Q. How do you control an Acer Laptop Fan?

A. Simple, bring down the price of the new models to an affordable level,so that the Fan can go out and bl**dy well buy one!

Okay, it seems that Acer control the fan speed with some proprietary hardware/software combination and settings that doesn't allow third party access.

In my particular TravelMate, there are two CPU sensors, one HDD sensor and another ACPI sensor (which may be close to the GPU). All of these seem to affect the fan speed.

I also do find that cranking down the GPU (using the ATI facility) and CPU (using the Acer ePower facility) cuts down the amount that the fan kicks in to high speed.

I find that changing the GPU and CPU settings does not affect the general performance of the machine.

Running intensive things such as a 3D game or video conversion software on the other hand, I tend to knock the settings up for the duration.

Way down deep in the ACPI control settings in Windows, the logic code and temperature thresholds for the fan speed are written. Only for the ACPI temperature sensor, though. It's not a case of a simple table with easily understood numbers - considerable knowledge of ACPI is required to interpret and it's way beyond me. Plus, it does get incredibly warm when I do stress the machine: don't really want to break that!

I know this is an old topic. Has anyone ever opened there acer notebook and taken the black film off of the vents? My notebook kept overheating causing xp to bluescreen. I opened it up and uncovered 5 vents. I was able to keep my temps under 50C. im not sure whats a good temp but it didnt bluescreen at that temp.
