Alienware Area-51m (776) and Windows Vista RC2 Question

Hey guys. So I finally got around to installing Windows Vista RC2 on my Alienware Area-51m (766). I have two questions for you guys who can maybe help me out

1. Vista automatically installed the drivers for the NVIDIA geforce go5600 but they are not WDDM drivers so windows aero glass is disabled. I did some searching around the net and found some mobile NVIDIA drivers on www.laptopvideo2go.com that are supposed to work but I can't get them to. Anybody else got them to work? This should apply to basically anybody with a mobile NVIDIA video card except for the 7XXX series I believe so hopefully somebody knows what's up.

2. The only driver vista failed to install was the texas instruments one for the card reader on the side of the notebook I believe. However, either I'm completely missing something or it appears that I can't even find drivers on the Alienware support site for the 766 series of Area-51m notebooks. I used to log into the support site and use the pulldown menus to select mobile systems and then Area-51m 766 but it no longer exists as an option. Doesn't Alienware have any of the drivers on the site anymore or am I just missing something?

Thanks guys! I look forward to any assistance. I recommend everybody install vista to get in the swing of the thing before the final release in the upcoming months. The new features are awesome (except for the UAC thing which is annoying as hell but can be disabled easily) and it's pretty damn stable for a Release Candidate.

With the laptopvideo2go.com drivers, did you download the INF file as well? With later AW systems you have to download the Driver Package, then the INF file. They unzip the driver package and put the INF file into the folder, it'll ask if you want to replace the existing one, click yes... Then install the drivers and it should work.

The drop down drivers are still there, the 766 is just lumped at the end of the models in their catagory. Look for
Area 51m/MJ-12m/Ozma-m/Roswell m 5500 (15.4"/16.1" LCD) , I think that's the 766.

The video card drivers are under the video driver heading instead of everything else that's under mobile systems.

Thanks for the feedback. To help future vista users who may encounter the same problem until NVIDIA releases an official WDDM driver for the Geforce GO cards you can:

1. Go to http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...howtopic=11329
2. Download the "Driver" file and unzip
3. Delete the "nv_lh.inf" file in the root directory and move the appropriate INF file from the "OEM_INFS" directory into the root directory. I think in my case it was the nvlh.inf file that actually worked for me; but each INF contains different cards listed.
4. Go into device manager and manually choose the INF file to install from. Choose yes to the whole security warning thing and then once the driver is installed reboot.
5. Run the Windows Performance Rating thing again. Mine went up from 1.0 to 3.0!

Regarding the "Base System Device" that wasn't detected on my Area-51m (766), I downloaded the "PCMCIA Port Driver 1.0.6.0" from the "Area-51m/MJ-12m/Ozma-m/Roswell-m 5500 (15.4"/16.1" LCD) " section and it updated the driver manually in device manager and the card reader slot works now :-)
