CX7 lid button doesn't send ACPI events.

Hiya,

I'm having a bit of an issue with my CX7 -- up until a couple weeks ago, closing the lid of my machine would power off the display. This no longer happens. The only thing I can think of that changed is that I plugged an external monitor in at one point.

This is a cross OS issue -- the behavior changed in both Windows XP and Linux. In Linux, I can actually monitor the button state -- it always registers as "closed" and doesn't generate events when I open/close the lid.

*sigh* Any idea why this might be happening? Is there an actual "lid button" that might've gotten stuck?

If the light is staying on across multiple OS when the lid is closed then you likely have a faulty switch. I would send it for RMA straight away before the warranty runs out.

Yeah, well... the tech said it was the video card and that there wasn't a switch on the CX7. Honestly, I'm skeptical, but they put in an RMA for it, so... will see.

Looks like I'm going to have to call again tomorrow anyway, as it looks like my display is getting iffy (bright spots popping up).

Whelp... as expected, the video card made no difference.

I wish I knew if there was a lid switch somewhere...

LOL well I think my participation in this thread has cursed me. I am now falling victim to the same behavior with my Sager 5760. This is the same clevo model as the CX7. There has to be a switch somewhere to register the physical state of the lid being closed. That is where the issue would be rooted. i don't see a little tab and push button on the outer chassis anywhere so it has to be either up near the front where the lid clips slide into the bottom half of the clam shell when you close the lid (near the audio dj panel) or inside around the hinge assemblies somewhere. i don't see any other possible places for it to be.

I'll keep you posted via this thread if I discover anything.

good luck

Cool. (well, not cool that you're having the problem, but, well... you know)

Hypersonic wants me to send the laptop in for repairs, but because my schoolwork and research pretty much depends on it, it's not really an option right now.

Don't really know what my options are at this point, unfortunately. When I popped the new vid card in, I poked around looking for a switch, but no luck. Hypersonic said there is no switch, and that it's probably a faulty sensor.

Do me a favor, to see if your problem is the same as mine: go to your device manager. Somewhere in there is an entry for the lid switch. If you check the entry for the lid switch, you should be able to find what state it is in. Mine *always* registers as closed. I'm curious if yours does as well.

Whelp, problem solved.

My hinge broke, so after receiving my replacement part, I had an excuse to dig around in the display.

There isn't a *physical* lid switch. It's a magnetic system. There's a magnet at the bottom of the display that fits into a little bracket. When the display closes, the magnet is supposed to come close to a sensor in the button board -- mine, however, had come loose. A little tape to secure the magnet in place later, and the lid switch works fine. No need to have parts replaced.

Aye yai yai.

Similar thing happened to me with my EeePC (magnet fell out while modding). I believe it's called a Halls Sensor if anyone's looking for more info.
