i9300 Card Reader Doesn't work...

My i9300s built in card reader isn't working and I have no idea why. The computer detects it, it just won't read it. I have tried multiple cards as well and it still won't work. What is the matter with this thing?

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers in Add/Remove Programs, rebooting, then reinstalling?

Well, there are no drivers in the Add/remove programs section.

See, this install of windows xp on this machine is the third or fourth one. In all of the previous installations, the SD card reader worked as soon as XP booted up. In this installation however, I have had trouble since I got done reinstalling it. I dunno whats going on.

Plus, when I look for drivers on google, I find nothing.

It's likely a plug-n-pray detection issue.

In device manager find the reader, uninstall it, reboot. If that doesn't work you're SOL (for all intensive purposes, unless you like modifying your registry for some troubleshooting fun).

Not all is lost though, you may be able to start the windows install again, select the option to install, then when you get to the screen where it detects the existing installation select the "repair" option. This will attempt to redetect all hardware. You will have to reactivate with M$, but it might save some time if you've already started installing other things. If you haven't gotten too far into customizing windows, just reinstall again and hope for better luck this time.

Have you tried right-clicking on it, Uninstall, reboot?

Yep, did that. No go. Are there any drivers for this thing I could just try to install and then pray? lol

The drivers are native to Windows XP SP-2.

Bad news bigsurf, I don't think you will be able to solve your problem. . . check this forum I started a while ago http://www.notebookforums.com/thread167806.html
You'll find a hotfix there to download, see if that works, for most of us that have had the problem, it hasn't work.... My card reader used to work, and I had the same exact problem you did. Wanna know how I solved my problem? Got a replacement (e1705) but this was a while ago....

Also, I emailed Dell a couple of times, and they always claimed that they would work on a fix.... but its never going to happen considering the 9300 is discontinued now....

I had an i9300 for a year, that card reader never worked. I tried the fixes in the above post and it did nothing for me either.

This i9400 (E1705) I have now works great though, but it does require a driver as seen =HERE=

This is a strange issue, we have 4 9300 systems in the lab were I work and we use a variety of 1-4gb high speed SD cards for data transfer and testing purposes and I have yet to see these erros.
