12' notebook in a 17' backpack, any ideas?

I am a new owner of A M1210 (12' notebook) and i have a backpack that can hold a 17' notebook. I am curious if anyone can come up with inventive ideas as to make sure that the notebook is snug inside.
Currently the notebook is snug width wise, it has a widthwise elastic in the pack which keeps it tight. but there is about 4 inches to the elastic that holds it from moving up and down, mind you the notebook doesn't want to move at all while its in the backpack, but still i would like it to reach the elastic. I have thought about using a spacer to make the notebook fit 4 inches taller in the sleeve, which would also add some shock absorption aswell but i don't know what i should use or where i would get it,. I have also thought of using a sleeve, like Dr*Mo or case-PC but I don't know if that will make it tall enough.
Just to let you guys know its a Kensington Contour Backpack

If you guys know of anything i can use as a spacer, where to get it, or if you think a notebook sleeve will work fine let me know. if you have any other ideas please share them

You could buy a nice terry hand towel, a white one and roll it up and put it in the bottom of the sleeve, it would add shock absorb and not cause and problems with the notebook, any other kind of material I would worry about something to exterior.
