best drivers for ATI X1400 on Aspire 5672?

Hi everybody (it's been a while ...),

so I've been gaming a lot with my precious Acer and I'm happy with the overall performance of the machine - the one thing is bugging me though - one or two games (I'm sure about NFS: Carbon) make my computer crash totally. I mean a serious BSOD while booting them up. Whenever I click the NFS:Carbon icon on the desktop I instantly get the BSOD ... Oh yeah - and the other game that once caused the same thing is the Trackmania Nations (only one time though). The blue screen of death that I'm seeing for just a moment says something about the graphics card. I caught that a couple of times, that the last sentence says something about ATI X1400 Radeon. So I figured there might be something wrong with it. Of course it also could be the fault of the overheating processor, RAM memory, faulty motherboard .... you name it. I just thought that before running all crazy and whining about the overheating of the system, I might try some other video drivers.

What do you reccomend. Before I posted this I tried the latest Omega drivers ... and I remember there was something wrong with them as well ... yes - it was Pro Evolution Soccer 6 that wouldn't start at all after installing them.

What drivers do you guys use with your Acers? and what do you reccomend I try?

PS. right now I'm running on the drivers from Acers website. They run everything ... except the NFS and occasinally Trackmania.

Thank you in advance!

It seems like you could easily rule out overheating. Let the machine cool down, boot up, and immediately click the Carbon thing, and if it falls over right then, it's not heat.

I run the Omega 6.7 drivers, but not for gaming, because I needed to rotate my screen 90deg.

try the ATI Mobility Catalyst 6.10. i have the 5672 with x1600. No crashes with NFSCarbon and better performance with Company of heroes. It works very well infact. Link in my other Thread:

If you have good (or bad) results give some feed back. If you enjoy NFSCarbon, I also highly recommend Most Wanted (a favorite of mine).

Good luck.

thanks guys!
that driver change just worked charm! Wih my acer's old driver I would get a BSOD everytime I tried (it wasn't the overheating issue), and now with that Catalyst 6.10 everything works AOK!

Thank you again!
