New e1505: strange performance! Is this normal?

Hi, my new e1505 arrived yesterday. Unfortunately i have been kind worried about its performance.

First and most annoying is the screen. I got the 15.4 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen SXGA+ Display with TrueLife, but the graphics on my web browser all look jagged. On my 700m they do look much better.
I checked my high resolution photos and they are ok. My screen resolution now is the native 1680 x 1050.
Another problem i see is that the notebook has been slow to render some of the sites (not necessarily downloading it).
Is there are a way to get around this problem?
My dpi now is 120.

Another funny thing is that my 18months old 700m is a fast as this new Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7200 (4MB Cache/2.00GHz/667MHz FSB.
I have used DVD shrink and they both finished at about the same time.

My e1505 also have 1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm, 256MB ATI MOBILITY X1400 and 100GB 7200rpm SATA HD, but i am definitely less than thrilled so far.

Am i missing something here?? Should i exchange it?

Thanks on any feedback on some of your experiences.

Start by changing the DPI to 96 and see if that effects your rendering issues. Dont use this site has a test, its slow.

As far as DVD Shrink goes, depending on how you are using it, will be very dependant on the DVD drive so the processor will not matter that much. As for audio encoding from the hard drive my T7400 is about twice as fast as my 1.83ghz in my 700m

Had the exact same problem, made the registry edit shown in this link, now my graphics are perfect when surfing. Good luck, hope it solves it for you

In your search engine type "cleartype tuner", Go to the Microsoft site and adjust your screen setting, you will set the screen type and it will be much clearer. good luck

Wow, that link saved myself from the headache of having to sent it back. I applied the change on my register and i noticed the difference on my graphics, they don't look jagged anymore.
Afterwards i change my DPI to 96 and now my web browser is flying of so fast. Overall my notebook seems to be quite faster than before.
Weird that Dell would send this notebook from factory with thsese settings. And i almost sent it back.
Thank you so much!!! You made someone very happy!!!

Glad to be of some help. It doesn't suprise me at all that Dell would ship the system with less than optimal settings, I have seen it happen with all the major computer companies. My last notebook, a Compaq X1015, came without touchpad drivers so the insertion point jumped randomly all over the page while typing - very annoying, and of course Compaq support had no idea what the problem was. It was sent out for service AND finally replaced before I discovered that just installing the drivers they had on the webpage for the system would solve the issue. When I received this E1505 (yesterday!) and saw it had crappy graphics I figured it was the same kind of issue - pure sloppiness on the part of the manufacturer. Your best approach when you have a problem like that is to do a search and see if it is duplicated by other owners - if it is then it is almost always software settings and someone - SOMEWHERE - has found a fix.

I am now really enjoying my new notebook, hope you are too.
