Oddness with XDM/Entrance

So it is time for my regularly scheduled tougher problem to come up.

On my workstation I have entrance emerged and installed. However if I start entrance with XDM, it only accepts a single keyboard code, and then refuses any other keyboard command. In other words at most I can switch to another console if I want to start working, but only if it is the very first thing I do, past that all I can use is the mouse to reboot the computer.

Yet if I start entrance from the commandline after I log in as root, I have no problem. This also means if I switch to another console, and kill Entrance after it starts with the single keyboard command it will accept and restart it manually, it works fine.

Any ideas on that one?

your problem could be caused by the fact, that getty takes control over keyboard AFTER xdm has started. try to comment out XSTATICVT="yes" in xdm configuration file (in my gentoo box this file is located in /etc/conf.d/xdm.

Heh ok this is an older thread, I had to go back and reread what I originally posted, I tihnk I posted I solved it in a different thread I was posting in, but whatever.

At any rate I don't remember the specifics, but I think the problem stemmed from the tty consoles not being set up before entrance started, and I had to comment out something, though I don't believe it was the line you mention, I just don't remember what it was. At any rate Entrance is still started before the tty consoles are set up, but it no longer causes me a problem. Works out great cause in all actuality I can log into my box within about 30 seconds or so and get to work while in the background it does less important things like set up the network etc.
