Should I buy a MBP. Need to know quick.

I'm a PC developer ... big time. The development language I use does not run in OS X, so I need to run Windows XP now, and Vista when it comes out. I've done a search (blog search) and found some other developers who are working on a MB or MBP and running either Parallels or Boot Camp.

Money is NOT an issue, but reliability is!

There is a lot of things I like about the MBP... screen resolution, LCD brightness, small and lightweight form factor for a 15.4" LCD (not sure if anyone else can match the size and weight). I also want to do some experimenting with OS X. Hey, if it's that good, I'd like to find out for myself.

I would use OS X primarily for the multimedia features... I do a lot of photo and video editing, some web development, lots of word processing.

Is Office for MAC file compatible with Office for Windows?

Somebody tell me buying a MBP is a good idea so I can place my order ASAP.

Office for Mac is compatible with Office for Windows. I have no idea about Boot Camp though since I have no personal experience. But, I would say, go for it, buy a MBP/MB.

bootcamp runs fine with my visual studio pro. which i imagine youll be coding in? maybe not.

anyways office works fine in both, interoperably i add.

Apple was just ranked along with IBM/Lenovo recently as being best in reliability.

Took the plunge and bought a MBP 2.33 with 160 gig hard drive. I got in on the Developer Connection discount and saved a bunch on all the peripherals that I ordered. Let me know if you need a link.

I had a D820 and really liked it pretty well, but it was a little bulky and a little heavy. Didn't care for the screen brightness at all.

I decided to get the MBP so I could test Parallels and Boot Camp... that's why I got the 160 gig hard drive. I plan to do extensive Windows development work on it. I guess I'm tired of reading what everybody else things and opted to get one so I could decide for myself.

I'll post a review as soon as I get it and get a chance to play with it a bit. I know nothing about OS X so it will take a little time ot figure that out. I've used Parallels (on a Windows laptop) and currently have Vista installed with VMWare on my Thinkpad. I've also signed up for the beta with VMWare for the Mac version.

I'm not sure if you considered getting the MBP and buying a copy of Parallels to run Windows on. That's what my plan is. I've already experimented with Parallels and VMWare on my Thinkpad and it works great.

We used VMWare (the free server version) to install Windows Vista and test our application software that we develop. It's easier, much easier, than trying to partition the hard drive and then install Vista on a separate partition.

We attempted to use the beta version of Parallels, but it wasn't working properly with Vista. I'm guessing they have those issues worked out.

That's why I ordered the 160 gig hard drive. I'll probably have a few Windows programs to install.
