Nvidia 97.02's control panel issue

Just installed the new drivers with the modded inf from lv2go and noticed something rather odd. The updated control panel window is completely blank, it opens and "Select a Category..." is written along the top of the panel, but there are no options or categories in the window. Has anyone else who has installed these drivers noticed this? I know these drivers are intended for the 8800 but the inf is supposed to make them backwards compatible and it's supposed to have a nifty updated control panel. (does anyone else hate the new control panel? I hope they keep offering the option to use the classic one... )

I just upgraded from a pair of 7800 GTX's to an 8800 GTX, and I see the same problem, whether I use the drivers v96.89 that came from eVGA, or with the drivers v 97.02 off the NVidia download page.

In each case I uninstall the old NVidia display drivers first, then reboot and install the new drivers.

I wonder it is because I was using the vastly superior "Classic" control panel interface earlier with my 7800 card... the only way to tell I guess will be to uninstall the new driver, go back to the 7800 driver (possible?), turn off the Classic mode, uninstall the 7800 dirver, and reinstall the 8800 driver. What a pain, and that may not even fix it!
I see the same problem with

apparently there is a way to alter the registry to force the latest forceware to revert to classic control panel. I asked for someone to explain exactly how on Laptopvideo2go forums about it.. i'll keep you posted if there is infact a solution.. unless anyone knows about such a thing here?

From another source I found that you can restore the Classic Control panel by just adding a DWORD value of "SedonaDisable"=2 in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\NVIDIA Corporation\\Global\\NvCplApi\\Policies

After doing that, you can choose Classic from the View menu in the new NV control panel, and then after relaunching the CP it is back in good old classic mode.

You can also do this by saving the following as a .reg file (such as "NVidiaClassicCP.reg") and then double-click on the saved file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\NVIDIA Corporation\\Global\\NvCplApi\\Policies]
"SedonaDisable"=dword:00000002

This is not a good fix but it might help you if the reg hack for the Classic view did not help.

Iam having the exact same problem you are with the 97.44 Drivers and a GF8800gtx.
I have uninstalled/reboot/reinstall/reboot several times, I had nTune installed and thought that might be the problem so I unisntalled nTune, manually erased all of the nTune reg entries and UI/RB/RI/RB again with no luck.

For now I have downloaded nHancer from http://www.nhancer.com/ .

It's a 3rd party profile creator for nVidia g.cards, it's working great for me, I have access to all of the normal settings then some.

Thank you, this worked great!

WOOT!

The RegHack worked for me too, now I can get rid of nHancer. I still wish the new CP worked, but even if it did I would still use this hack for Classic CP, I'd just like to have the choice.

Glad I found this post, thanks.
