gsferrari's ***SAGER 8790** report - Page 6

Laura - I want you to know that I DONT CARE about perfect screens...I work in the Silicon Technologies and I know the failure rate of any Silicon based device. I am being realistic here - if there is a pooped pixel on my LCD i'll just ignore the bugger and give him a sweet name...

In fact - I have already thought of a name - How about "Zulu" ??

I am sure there are perfect screens because you say so and I trust you guys more than anybody else. urbingseek also has a perfect screen so the rep was probably on a break

And - I INTEND to enjoy this system...I've waited a long time for it and if Adam likes it...its good

Hey brianl congrats on getting the new system. Are you going to write up a review style post? Also, one member complained about the sound of the fans. I realize this IS a desktop replacement and the fans WILL be noisy, but I wonder how noisy it is. Right now My desktops side case is open and it doesnt really bother me. Plus at school we have to use crappy IMAC's n they are pretty lout too, but again I ignore it. So... is the fan THAT loud, or are people just over-reacting?

I was thinking of ordering it but ... the screen.... it's wide and it's resolution .... Someone mentioned in these forums that after spending so much money on a gaming laptop you'd want it to work with every game and not tweak and adjust it or have blank dead portions of the screen.

every game

blank portions

Actually the new machine Will Not work with every game... nor will any other.

Dead pixels, and "Always active" pixels and not "dead portions". It's the "luck of the draw" when ordering any LCD, be it a laptop or one for the desktop. If you order and the pixels are too bad, then return the unit for a refund.

In otherwords, get off the fence and order the machine - I think that you will like it.

I have had 3 Sagers 5680 8890 8790 plus a AW51M and all were perfect screens with no dead or stuck pixels so there are a lot that go out that are perfect.

You can plug it in and it will work, because the bios is there. but that's as far as it'll go if you don't have an OS installed. The bios will probably report something like "OS not found on primary HD" or "Cannot boot from disk" or "xxxx isn't a valid drive" if the drive isn't partitioned yet.

I believe Sagers can come with or without OS depending on the option you choose.

The O/S comes preloaded as well as everything else only if you purchase it with the configuration.

I didn't mean dead pixels. I meant that you either have to strech out the picture to fit the wide screen or have two black bars on each side of the screen. Why not wait for them to make a 3:4 screen?

Those that wait neither gain nor loose.

you can choose if you want to have the game in full screen or with bars on the side (choosing standard res). I choose full screen on the Tosh P-25...guess i got used to it...

Have you received your machine yet??

Apparently the UPS truck came by and GS wasn't there to sign for the package. There's a thread about it in the off-topic section. We will see when gs gets home from work today.

BACK!!!

That truck wasn't the truck with my laptop

Another truck came by in the evening just after I got back from work. This time I actually managed to hold off opening the box until I finished re-doing my room - re-arranging furniture, setting up the speakers etc.

I threw away my bed to make room for the Klipsch Ultras

I am using the 8790 now...detailed notes later

Be Wary of the battery.
No dead pixels...

Came with RAID enabled even though I ordered only one HDD...scared me out of my wits initially because it wouldnt let me install OS. I had to open up the back and toggle the switches on the mobo before I could proceed...a small setback but a noob wouldnt have known what to do

Mine "grew" after a few hours of use. Hopefully you screen is not the same.

I say, go with Phong... mainly because Zulu reminds me of Rainbow Six 3, which was super glitchy.

Cor would be cool too though... since ive never heard of anything like it.
