Excellent, GS. Your review will be of MAJOR-GONZO-MEGA importance to me in my decision about buying an 8790. My specs are exactly the same as yours. I'm still looking into when a WUXGA upgrade will be available.

P.S. How's the summer weather in Tampa? I might accept a short contract job in St. Pete during June-August. I love beaches, sun and warm weather, so I might never wanna leave!

I am looking forward to it myself GS.
I should be receiving mine on Tuesday and although I will be a rookie at posting a review I hope it will be informative.

I just want to jump in quickly before this thread is abandoned for gs's review to clear up a few things.

First, I know the thread got waaaaay off track when talking about screens. I have contacted Sager myself to find out exactly what happened there and I was told that gs asked for the rep find him a perfect screen. Of course, this is something that Sager's sales team can not and does not do. Instead of giving gs Sager's dead pixel policy, the rep simply responded that there is no such screen. Of course, this was interpreted that all screens are flawed which is NOT true. In fact, the 8790s we have here prove that fact alone. So please, everyone, what was posted about this is not true, but a miscommunication.

With that said, there are a few things that are important to keep in mind:

1. Screen quality is controlled by the single supplier Philips-LG in regards to all 17" screen laptops at the current time. Neither Sager nor Clevo has control over screen production.

2. Sager's sales team does not have the authority to offer special screen specifications to specific customers because Sager wants to be fair to all our customers and treat them under the same public policies.

3. Sager has and will always do their best to offer the best products & policies they can to our customers, and we still truly think that their Dead Pixel policy is the best offered in the industry.

I was very concerned to see the posts last week, but I wanted to make sure that I got all the details before I posted something. If anyone has any further questions about screens, dead pixels, policies, etc., please feel free to email us at admin@pctorque.com.

Thank you!

Well said.
indeed...yes this is gsferrari using another screen name

Cant waste the 400th post on something insignificant

I requested the rep to take a look at my screen and make sure its poopsie free...he said that was not possible and HE SAID THIS "None of the screens are without dead pixels...they ALL have dead pixels".

I dont have to prove to you guys and whether this is true or not...what was said is what I posted...simple....

Its a pointless discussion anyway. The Laptop will be here in a few days and then we'll see

Laura,

What is the policy regarding the 17" screen? I know about the pound sign procedure for the 15" and 16" UXGA's, but there is no mention of the 17's in the dead pixel policy thread.

Possible but why discuss this...the rep was pretty confident...but I have trouble understanding chinese/korean/taiwanese English anyway so this could be a possibility.

Absolutely - although the rep also explained why...he was very good with his explanation and I understood why it is difficult to get perfect screens. (Something I knew before but a refresher is always a good thing ). I accepted (read my first post where I made the news public) a flawed screen and gave my reasons why I would not be upset. Never hurts to try and get a perfect one though

Again...well within the customers rights to try for a better deal. No hanky panky - I asked - he declined - I have no regrets about this

Yes...one of the reasons why I am sticking with Sager even with various options out there.

It's cool, gs. Regardless of what went on in the conversation, I am here to tell you that there ARE perfect screens. I have seen perfect screens in 8790s with my own eyes, so I know this to be true. Besides, plenty of forum members have perfect 4780 screens, so it would make no sense to say that there are no perfect 8790 screens.

I hope you enjoy your new system!
