Pirates verion? Na.. The officical version aint out yet, where were be a pirates verion??

It is a leak verion build 5840 RTM. It is very close to the Nov release version 6000 RTM (Window 6).

You can either full install or upgrade from previous Windows. It has few icon and driver change. I am currently running the 5840. Looks really good, but did not have chance to run games. Base on what my friends said, almost same as XP.

The 5840 comes with multi-Language setup. I can access Chinese Traditional or Simplified version. Not bad at all.

Since the verion is not offical relase yet, MS did not provide the serial # so the active day was set on 30 days, but there are way to bypass. I made a copy of my MCE2005 OS backup, just in case if I did not like the 5840. So far so good. I guess I'll know when I finish playing few games.

BTW Windows Vista 6000 RTM X86 is out now!!!RTM means Windows Vista Releases To Manufacturing (RTM)

Enjoy you all. I am in middle of DLing now.

Vista isn't out for MSDN subscribers yet.

As an MSDN Universal subscriber I can confirm that Vista RTM is NOT available. They've promised to have it ready within 7 days of RTM, so that gives them until Tuesday/Wednesday to put it up for subscribers.

As for build 5840, I'm running it right now on my M1710. You'll encounter no major issues, however, things to consider before installing:

1. It's doomed - unless you get a valid (i.e. can be activated) RTM key you'll have to crack it in order to use it beyond 30 days.

2. nVidia driver support still sucks. Current version - 96.86 - is slow in BF2 and renders the menu system indecipherable. Also has no Control Panel (though you can splice-in the one from 96.85) and few configuration options.

3. Sigmatel audio is also a question mark - I needed to install the legacy XP driver in order to enable subwoofer and get Skype to recognize the microphone. I suspect that this driver may also be the cause of frequent "stuttering" under BF2.

If gaming isn't your thing then go for it. Otherwise, you might want to wait for better driver support from nVidia, etc.

RTM has leaked on the internet and has not been released to Select or MSDN customers.

So for anyone who got the RTM, Do you guys did a clean install or upgrade from Windows XP?

It will be available for download on MSDN soon, but it's not there now. Office is supposed to be available tomorrow. Some say the Vista release will be on the 17th and they won't keep the 7 day promise. The newzgroups however have no such restriction. I'm running Build 6000 6.0.6000.16386 and it's the real deal.

For those wondering about the multiple install choices, they are putting all versions on one disc and depending on the key you purchased that's the version you are supposed to install. You can only activate the version you bought the key for so if you by Basic and then install Ultimate you can use it for 30 days but then it will bust you back down to Basic.

The 6000 RTM build is snappier still and is idling around 495MB RAM usage; disc access is faster as well. I just installed it so I can't call how it games (the last couple have been TERRIBLE for me and my 7900GTX missing groud textures and menus making things unplayable) but if anyone cares I'll post back. Here's a shot...

I got the same one. Did you happened to get the vista Intel chipset installed/working? I think that's the driver I'm missing. Windows Update took care of the Ricoh.

Yep, it's crazy that this is now considered low; they started out around 1GB ( ) in Beta 1 and it's gone down since...

I haven't seen a driver from INtel specifically for Vista so I am just betting that the stock Vista stuff is better than trying to get an XP CS Driver to install.
