Is my E1705 okay? Deliverd yesterday, problems already?

Hello,

My E1705 was delivered just yesterday. I decided to do a clean install last evening.. I installed all the drivers but the Sony (XP MCE recognized them?) DVD Burner.. I tried to install FSX today but it took about 90 minutes to reach 50 percent of the installation? I cancelled.

I tried Oblivion. The setup is running now for 1 hour and its still not finished (about 80 percent - rough guess)... I've got a 7200rpm hdd, is this okay or what?

Daniel

edit:
woops; typo.. Mods can u change it to delivered (topic title)? Thanks

Try installing the drivers for the DVD drive. Your 7200rpm hard drive will not make installations slow. FSX is large but it definitely doesn't take more than 15-20 minutes to install.

Hi RRF9985, according to Windows' Hardware management, I've got a Sony DVD burner... I can't find any drivers at dell.com.

Btw, I decided to give HDTune a go;

Seems okay right? Minimum is very strange though..

This seems to be a common problem among Dell systems, usually it just takes a bunch of retry installs to get it done, I know its a pain, but once you get that done, you'll love the system. Best of luck!

Thanks for replying pdonket , but why several re-installs? I don't get it really.. what the difference between the 2nd and for example 10th reinstall?

No problem , And the I can't exactly explain it, however I just know after troubleshooting the problem with some friends with the E1705 and my own 9300, Either I've had to do a manual install where I create files in the computer itself and by pass the discs, or reinstall the program over and over until it finally/gradually completes. For example this occurred with Battlefield 2, where first it would stop at 33%, then on the 2nd install i got to 66% and finally on the last I got to 100%, I still to this day wonder what makes it do this, but I know it does it. Also if these methods don't work, contact the game manufacturer and they will most likely give specific directions to solve the problem. Good luck with your problems, and enjoy your new E1705!

This points to a crappy cd drive if you want my opinion. Call dell and ask for a replacement.

I'm not sure why you're suspecting the hard drive.

Okay, it's solved now... Guess what? I had to turn on DMA.. Now my CPU load is only 20-40 percent with running both the installation of FSX and downloading and browsing at the same time..

I'll have to check the burning aspect though.. Hopefully it's 8x now
