dv9030us power problem

hey guys,
i have a less-than-a-week old dv9030us from hp and it is a beauty. suddenly, it would just shut off while im using it. i thought it was because of the heat when i play video games but it happened when i was surfing the internet, and reading documents. i contacted hp and they led me to a firmware upgrade and a power management reset but neither worked. has anyone else ever seen this happen? i switched wall outlets, used it without the battery installed and now im using it on battery only, with no ac power. so far no shut down with the battery only but it may jhust be a matter of time. anyone with suggestions please help. im trying to avoid sending it back since im not in the us and itll be a long time before i get it back if i send it...

thanks in advance

Couple of things to consider -
1) Try resetting the Power options to "Always ON" to kill it from consideraton.
2) Does WinXP start shutting down, or does it just immediately power-off?

If the latter, (immediate power-off), then you have no choice but to send it back or take it back where you bought it for a replacement.

Hello. I've the same problem...
This issue appears when I play games or when I run few processes in Windows and CPU usage is higher than ~70% - FAN runs louder (is spinning faster) and after few minutes laptop turns off itself. In HP they told me that low system resources is the problem and I should chcange virtual memory file size and delete temp files...This laptop has 2 gb of ram ,2x100gb hdd and 1.66 ghz core 2 duo processor so I'm 100% sure that low system resources is not a problem.
Before i bought this laptop I've played the same games and I've used the same programs on my old hp nx8220 laptop (1.5 ghz celeron , 512 mb RAM , Radeon x600, 80 gb hdd) without any problems. By the way - even with low system resources computer SHOULDN'T turn off itself...

I've recovered OS from "great" - 20gb not needed software - Recover disc. It didn't help so I have formatted HDD installed new operating system ( Win XP Proffesional) and uptated
BIOS(SMBIOS : 2.4 , Hewlett-Packard F.04, 2006-09-18) & all drivers. I've run Windows Update too...but it didn't help...

I suppose that this issue is related with CPU Temperature. Maybe PC turns off when CPU Tepmerature is too high?? But when I
touch my laptop - it's warm - not hot...or...maybe there is a problem with temperature sensor?

Heeeeellllpppp .... ;-)))

If it runs fine on the battery but shuts off on when on AC (and battery is removed), it could be a bad AC adapter. Could be it just can't supply enough juice when demend is high.
I had a bad AC brick that was causing my laptop to stop running on AC and start running on battery even when plugged in. If the battery was out (or dead), it would just shut off. New brick fixed it.

hey guys. i eventually sent it to hp and it seems that some hardware devices got damaged due to overheating (and it used to get really hot). anyway, they have it now, and im awaiting its return. i ordered a laptop cooling pad from amazon so that should prevent it from happening again......

You shouldn't "need" a cooling pad. Let me ask you this... do you use a "HARD" surface under the machine? The cooling vents are easily blocked with things like your leg, blankets of the "bed". I think it's STUPID to out the cooling intakes on the BOTTOM of the machine.... They should at least "center" the cooling intake so it's between your legs.. Another idea.... Don't laugh or take offense, but How "hot /humid" is the air in your area? Using the machine in a Air-conditioned" space?... Near a "heat" vent if you have the heat on?

it does turn off in the battery and ac power mode. after running dvdshrink software, cooling fan start on high speed and cpu speed rise up to 100 percet and core temp rise also to 90 to 100 degree celcius. then it shut down itself. i use RMsoft to watch cpu speed and temp. thank you

.

I have a Sempron 3400 cpu'd machine that never sees more that 57 -58? celcius under full load. 90-100 sounds high...

I'd Google /check Intel site to find the specs on your cpu... before you contact HP...

Sounds like Han-Sun at the factory didn't apply the themo pad correctly, off center or missing...

(either that or the heat pipe /heatsink is defective... on a "new" unit, make a clogged cooling system on a unit that has "run-time" on it, used in a dirty enviroment.)

Fix is to take it apart yourself and apply a fresh coating of thermo paste... or chance having HP repair it.... I say "chance" HP repairing it as I've read quite a few postes from people who had sent their unit in, only to receive it back with DAMAGE, scratches.

I'd suggest that BEFORE you send any unit in get todays "newspaper" and take pictures of your unit showing the condition with a "headline", date showing in the pic's.

(I'm serious)
