Was curious, which models of Asus Laptops use carbon fiber or metal type chasis? more so with a glossy screen, widescreen, and 15 inch or lower, with a video card, used or new, ebay works for me if its an older model

proc doesnt matter

and if anyone has used these models, would you tell me what you think vs plastic? does one stay hotter than the other? im guessing metal type will keep heat?

W1, W3/Z33, W7, V6, & VX series as well as M6V/Z70Va all fit the chassis description and have a graphics card

I just picked up my W3J over the weekend and I don't think it has a carbon fiber chassis...it does have a metal lid...the chassis appears to be of plastic, though high quality

I picked mine up in the "scratch and dent" corner at CDW. Think I paid $950 US with CDW's 2 year warranty...missing AC adapter and had to do a little "final assembly", but that's hardly a problem for me.

Woot! Does it get hot though! 75C after half an hour of L2...runs about 51-52 at idle/light surfing....

If you get one, don't forget to update the BIOS if you're having visual quality issues. Do NOT use the Omega drivers...and NHC beats Power 4 gear any day.

I believe the Z70va might suit you best in this case, since the processor is a Pentium-M, you can undervolt this quite nicely, to gain more battery life, and decrease heat.

The Z70va has 15.4" High Resolution screen, but it is MATTE, has a X700, and is customizable.

There are alternative, the S96j and Z96j, both are glossy, 15.4", the Z96j has a high resolution screen, both have a X1600, and are both customizeable to the specs you want, look here and here.

In terms of different materials and heat, you really can't compare since there are so many other factors to consider, that contribute to increase in heat.

For example a smaller chasis, thinner chasis, would create a warmer laptop. A Laptop with more graphical power would generate more heat than something with a less powerfull graphic card.

The internal configuration of the laptops, for example the Z71v vs Z70va, the internals on the Z71v led to a more cooler laptop, which allowed for more dissipation of heat.

If you look at the Macbook Pro, you can see the materials used are high end however the heat is very noticeable in such a small, thin, and powerfull package.
