Flickering screen gets fixed by eMachines.. now I wish I hadn't!

Thread Starter
I've been power-using my M6811 for almost two years now. In the first year I noticed the screen flickering issue and, before the warranty was up I sent it back to eMachines... (mistake number 1). They took over 3 months to get the unit back to me (in Canada). Yes, 3 months. Two months after I got it back the screen started flickering again.... back it goes... this time I get it back after a month (it's supposed to be 10 days BTW). And now, 4 months after getting it back the second time I have now got a nice one pixed wide line right down the right/middle of the LCD. AARGGGH! I'd rather have my flickering screen back any day. My 3 month warranty is over (for parts replaced) but I called them anyway hoping they would have mercy on my long suffering soul. Nope. The "best" they could offer was reduced price to fix it (3x more than if I did it myself).

Oh how I wish I had my flickering screen problem back.... and I had fixed it myself in the first place.

Never again eMachines/Gateway... never again.

So, if anyone has ideas on how to coax the LCD to give me my row of pixels back.. or if someone's got a dead m68** or compatible Gateway machine... let me know.

Yeah I hear ya, I have messed with my 7405GX (Trying to fix the damm sccreen flicker) that I think I need a new wiring harness, but not real sure if that would even correct the problem, so, (I feel your pain), I keep patching it up with electrical tape and hot-glue, and giving it more slack, (to stop it from moving so much) but it's just getting worse, I did do the 2GB Memory Upgrade, but I'm not having any real luck with the screen flicker fix, maybe I should just take the damm LCD screen off and be done with it, but I have been lazy about doing it the correct way (it's just no more fun to keep opening up this lappy ANYMORE) and today I was so MAD about my screen flickering, that I almost went out and bought a MX6447 on sale at Circut City: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Gatew...oductDetail.do
but I decided to wait untill Vista comes out in Jan/Feb 2007

Refering to the backlight harness you need to remove each wire in the connector and pinch the ends together. They are sort of in the shape of a \\/. When you plug it back in it grabs ahold better. It's good to be back folks, Hello fizi, Thunder!. I am getting my hinges fixed here soon. I am also replacing my DC jack on the back. My m6805 is going strong since the summer of '04.

Not much you can do. I am kind of in the same boat except my column of bad pixels is on the far right edge of the screen. I see used LCD's on ebay selling for around $150 maybe cheaper. I am thinking about doing that.
