A8Jm vs. A8Js. Opinions?

Just looking for opinions before I pull the trigger.

There is a roughly a $200 difference between the units (after rebate).

Js has C2D versus the Jm with older dual core.

Js has 7700 vid versus 7600 vid.

Js has 1440x900 screen vs. Jm 1280x800.

Js one year warranty vs. JM 2 year warranty (after rebate).

Questions:

OS? Not sure...
Heat difference?

So, given the above (I may have missed something) is it worth the extra for the A8Js? Is there that big of a difference? Anyone had their hands on both units?

Thanks,
Bob

OS is XP Home on the Jm (I think) and XP Pro on the Js. The Js has a SATA hard drive controler and the Jm has a PATA controler.

C2D is about 10% faster than it's CD counterpart (1.66 C2D is ~10% faster than the 1.66 CD etc...). C2D is also 64 bit which allows you to get one of the better versions of Windows vista (there are 5 versions IIRC)

The 7700 is 10-20% faster than the 7600

hopefully a reseller can help you out with a real life comparison

I don't know about you, but I think getting a better processor, video card, and more pixels seems like a pretty good deal for only $200 more.

rickster is basically correct, here are the numbers to show.

1) GPU - X1600 vs x1700 vs Go 7600 vs Go 7700
ALL numbers are in 3DMark06! (I'm not talking about 3DMark05)

The X1600 will get roughly 1800-1900 points, the X1700 will get 1900-2000 points, roughly translates into a 3-8% increase in performance respectively.

The Go 7600 will get 1900-2000 points while the Go 7700 gets a staggering 2664 in the A8js (some will differ slightly), this shows a which shows a 20-25% increase in performance respectively.

Now when you compare both X1600 and X1700 to the Go 7700, the Go 7700 once again out performs both ATI counterparts by roughly 600-700 points which is roughly 20-25%.

And regarding C2D vs Core Duo, rickster is correct, C2D is more future proofed because of the 64bit processing, also paying 200$ more IS VERY much worth the increase in performance you are getting.

$200 more go for it! A company like dell would charge ~$120 alone for a 2 year warranty. Remember that with the T7200 your not only getting a faster CPU 1.83ghz vs 2ghz, it's 64bit and has twice the cache! The CPU will be 10-25% (depending on what your doing) faster then the T2400 on the Jm. The 7700 Go also has 4 more pixel pipelines than the 7600. 8 vs 12. And thats why your getting 20% + more performance over the Jm. Don't forget the screen and the OS. All of this is worth at least $200 more. I'd say closer to $300-400.

I had both and the extra pixels and 64bit cpu are worth it. Very portable as well.
