Memory Upgrade for i6000

ok guys, i just recently bought a i6000 with the x300, and i was wondering how much upgrading the memory from 512 to 2 gig would improve my gaming performance?

i love games like half life 2 and black and white 2. and they both run, fine, but extremely slowed down. i didnt think the slowdown was from lack of graphic muscle, but im not really that computer smart. if im going to shell out 250-300 bucks i want to know that it will be money well spent. because if i wont be able to play these games, im going to sell this laptop and get either the e1705 or a dell xps.

and also if the memory is the way to go, i was wondering which brand i should go with? i saw a couple of suggestions on the site, but i want some memory with chops, something that is going to improve my performance big time. thanks for all the help!

512 to 1gig would make a difference - 2gigs very little difference.

The video card will hold you back past 1gig

ok, so i should just go with 2 512 or just a one gig stick? and as far as brands. everyone is pushing towards crucial, should i just buy from them? or should i shop around, i know some use kingston, and other brands ive never heard of. i really just want some bang. thanks for the reply!

I think any reputable ram company with lifetime warranty will work just fine. I bought a 1gb gskill ram for my i6000 and it failed after 7 months.. but they sent me a new one within 2 days. That's awesome customer service imo.

And if your not planning to upgrade to two gigs, then 2 512's would probably be better than then 1gb stick because you can run in dual channel, even though you probably won't be able to feel the difference. You could also just keep your 512 stick in there and stick in a 1gb and you'll have 1.5 gb of ram.

ok, i think ill just buy a 1 gig stick. but im not sure where to get one. crucial only offers two 512 and a 2 gig setup. not just one gig. and i was wondering if there was a difference from 533 to 677. thanks so much for the help.

I was also wondering if those dell quick snaps are the real deal carbon fiber or just fake stuff. and also im still wondering which brand too order. i want to order something that will fit.

About the quicksnaps... I think they are just plastic with a pattern painted over them but since I don't own one, I can't verify that for you. Just pick a ram manufacturer that isn't too expensive and has lifetime warranty. Kingston or Cruicial are good choices. I think i6000's only go up to 533 btw.
